The Latest Talking Point By The Repugs Is "We Just Want To Have A Conversation" With The President..

The President said - he'd have a conversation with them after the House passes a clean CR and the debt ceiling is raised. I think the Repugs now are trying to push this conversation thingy because they think it makes the President look bad by not talking. The President needs to come out today and reiterate his willingness to sit down - after the House passes a clean CR and the debt ceiling is raised. He needs to continue to make the point that he will not be the subject of extortion. He should not back down. He should not give in. Boehner and the Repugs are backed into a corner now and he has to keep them there.

If there is no resolution on the debt ceiling - he should invoke the 14th Amendment and raise it himself per the Constitution. I know that the next word out of the Repugs - if that happens - is impeachment. This is what the Repugs want anyway. I believe that this is what they are pushing him into.

I don't believe that impeachment would stick. The American People understand the simple analogy that the President has given us. If you incur a debt - you are obligated to pay it off (your house, your car, your credit card bills). He would have the support of the American People behind him on this.

....accept the offer of so-called "negotiatons", but they should be fully public - even moreso than the stuff he did early on in his presidency at the GOP conference and the health care conference.

Ok, we can negotiate, but let's do this in the full view of the American people. The deal we hash in public is the deal we'll pass into law. Otherwise, you got NOTHING!

You work out a contract, both parties sign it, they load up your stuff in their truck, but then they say they want an extra $2000 and you won't get your stuff back until you pay the ransom.

Dems need to remind everyone that both sides ALREADY had a conversation and negotiated terms, as Harry Reid pointed out.
