Bill Kristol is scared. The GOP is about to implode.

On Morning Joe, between the spewed lies, it is very clear that Kristol is extremely concerned about the current situation. He admitted that Obamacare could not be defunded the way the current House GOP was trying and that it should not be changed outside the legislative process. He was asked if the way to change Obamacare was through winning the Senate and the Whitehouse, how does what the House GOP is doing work toward that goal? He visibly squirmed and said he would not have chosen the path the House GOP did and that it's complicated (I lol'd at that). He said you have to play the hand your are dealt. When pressed what that meant for moving forward, he could not answer the question. He didn't say work out a deal. He didn't say hold a vote. This is a clear sign the GOP is screwed and they have no idea how to get themselves out of it. Prediction: On the verge of Obama having the use the 14th Amendment, the House will buckle and hold a clean CR vote as well as raise the debt ceiling.

...the rushpublicans know they are on the wrong side of the national electoral ball. They've alienated many groups that will make it difficult for them to win the Presidency. Even the Senate is difficult for them as their own infighting is leading to fielding weak candidates and expect more in 2014 (Turtleman in KY case in point). Thus they can only "rule" through the House and hostage taking is the only way they know how to operate.

Sadly I see us going off the fiscal cliff and it's going to hurt a lot of people since the gerrymandered rushpublicans will continue to blackmail rather than govern...

The Kristol thing was amusing, but I really liked your prediction.

I give it a 50/50 chance of getting to the default phase.

However, because the lunatics are currently in charge of the asylum my prediction is that the nut jobs are all in. They will force a default and President Obama will step in using the 14th amendment which the lunatics will use as an excuse to file impeachment charges against the President wasting another two years of economic recovery.

These corporate stooges will do whatever their paymasters tell them.
They better scrub the voter rolls of all non-elite voters because Americans have had enough.

It is imperative that we overturn "citizens united." Everyone has now had the opportunity to see how this corporate controlled SCOTUS has screwed us, even the uninformed have finally noticed.
This elitist ruling has many people questioning the wisdom of lifetime (political) appointments to an institution that has so much control over us.
IMO, this ruling in itself could be the basis for a revolution. TPTB have pretty much guaranteed that there will be no such thing as a peaceful revolution. That is why "our" local police are completely militarized.

it is amazing how many people of all political alliances realize that money and politics do not mix, especially since citizens united.

I tend to agree.

I thought they would not allow this to go this far because there were enough GOPers who see it as having been super damaging in the 90s.

But, once again, the entire GOP is led by the most extreme elements and if it got this far, these asshole simply have no capacity to do the sensible thing, they will go down burning instead of pulling up most likely.

This house has ALWAYS been destined to bring up articles of impeachment on this President.

They are going to have a REAL hard time if it is for him excercising the 14th amendment to pay our debts.

The unfortunate thing is the media will find a way to make it in some way at least half ownership on Obama and make it into this they are all to blame thing, and with gerrymandering it likely won't lose them the house even if they take more loses there.

IF it comes to all that.

I am, for a short time, stuck in Canon City, Colorado. There are a few right wing idiots who show up at the dog park with their mutts. One loudmouths every assinine statement lately spewed by Lush Rimbaugh, the other fusses whatever Faux news spouts. Both are elderly, angry, very white and obviously racist. Then there's my parents... oh, god. At 92 and 86, cannot understand any of the issues but still insist on absentee voting "R"... every election. The racism they spout is so blantant, they utilize the "N" word to describe our current commander in chief. No respect whatsoever, and relish in anything Faux says, even though they couldn't recall the information 2 minutes later.
The bumperstickers I see here regularly are truly embarassing. I'll be glad to get back to good ole blue California, soon as this shutdown is done. For now, I'm stuck, as my work is federally contracted.

I don't think he's scared. I think he knows exactly what he's doing.

The end justifies the means in his book. He has no empathy so there's no way he can envision a tragedy that affects anyone outside his circle.

The only reason joe has him on mornin joe is because mornin joe hero worships and joe dumber than a rock.

Kristol's only reason for being on mornin joe is to make sure his "reasonable" message is front and center.

The only reason the msnbc PRICs have this theater on is because they make money no matter which side "wins". I noticed they had Bernstein on at the same time. The crowd really likes a good contest.

I usually flip between joe and local news...leaning heavily to the local. When I saw who the guests were I didn't bother going back.

BTW, Nicole is...well, never mind.

William Kristol has this giddy, stupid smile, a real stoned grin on his face every time I see him.
After 2000, he was high on ideology, after 2003, high on war, 2007, high on retrenchment.
Now that ideology and war have let him down, I'm sure he'll find another stimulant.
He is sophistry on two feet.

As soon as he uses the 14th amendment to pay the debt, impeachment proceedings will begin. They have been looking for a reason. Not that it is valid, if the house did their job, it wouldn't be necessary to use the 14th amendment. I just think they are trying to goad Obama into it.

Getting a conviction in the Senate is far more unlikely however, unless the blue dogs sabotage his presidency the way they sabotaged any chance of even a faux public option from being part of the ACA.

The problem with welcoming conservative fake Dems in the party is they are very effective at sabotage being false flag operatives that work for Republican ideals from within the party. Even knowing the purpose they serve to destroy the party from within, I think it unlikely that they would vote to convict as such an act would throw the pretense right out the window revealing them as the Republicans they truly are. They work to hard to maintain that cover in order to have the power to make sure their corporate masters get "bi-partisan passage" of the money bills important to the .01%

I was more than halfway convinced that the WMD lie and failed Iraq war would utterly destroy the Republican party. I knew Kerry should have won blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back. The Republicans were so discredited, nobody from that party could show their face in pubic. I was so, so wrong.

I'm not going to count the party dead until the head's cut off, a stake's put through the heart, the corpse buried and ground salted.

I don't think shutdown will hurt their chances a bit. I have no idea what it could take to ruin that party.

myself to become actively involved with the local Democratic party. Some great people who are still easily ground under Republican heels. Any normal common sense would reason that the Republican mindset would be dead and buried. My mom, who was one of the few active Democrats in my very Republican home town (she oversaw JFK's visit in 1960, sat next to him on stage, and was infuriated by the way local Repub bigshots fawned over him when she knew they'd be voting for Nixon) always had the theory that since Republicans were the party of the rich, it made the less educated and non successful types to feel superior as Republicans. Then again, my own father always voted Democratic, but registered Republican because he felt he needed to do so workwise. Go figure!

the debt ceiling, if it costs the Republicans nothing legislatively, will be a victory for them. If the Democrats agree to negotiate with them later for doing their constitutional duty now, they will have lost again. The Republicans will have won a concession; the Democrats will have gained nothing, and the cycle of lawless legislative extortion will continue unabated.
