Lanny Davis' new job? Defending the use of the Washington Redskins' racist name

Whether it's defending the Honduran military coup leaders who ousted an elected president, supporting a brutal Ivory Coast military strongman, getting in bed with brutal dictator in Equatorial Guinea, appearing as a FOX News "Democrat" to assure the audience that his pal Dubya was "a great guy" in college, or giving Hannity a tongue bath and talking points on radio, there's nothing Lanny won't do for a buck.

So what's the latest gig in the career of America's best-known conservacrat asshole?

Why, defending the use of racial slur against Native Americans and offensive team name by a multi-million dollar sports franchise, while attacking President Obama in the process, of course!

A representative for the Washington Redskins said Monday that President Barack Obama has “better things to worry about” than the team’s name and questioned why he hasn’t commented about a certain Chicago hockey team.

“President Obama has better things to worry about, but he should look at the Chicago Blackhawks who won the Stanley Cup and he’s never said a word about them,” Lanny Davis, an attorney for the Redskins, said on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends.”

Davis cited recent polling showing that most people were not offended by the Redskins name and hit Obama for speaking about football “at a time like this.”

Lanny is one of those particularly loathsome fake "democrats" who came out of the woodwork during the Monica mess to serve as media surrogates. With no ties to any Democratic issues or movements, his only reason for his prominence and use as a voice the party seemed to be a personal friendship with the Clintons. And even his loyalty to them is questionable, given how chummy he is with Hannity, a guy who routinely accuses President Clinton of rape and murder.

Yet the Clintons kept him in their inner circle throughout 2008, using him as a campaign surrogate on TV.

Lanny's positions on the issues are hard right, corporatist and downright morally reprehensible, especially when human rights are concerned. He's cut from the same cloth as his good pal Joe Lieberman, whose PAC he chaired and who continued to praise as a "model" senator, even after Holy Joe endorsed McCain and spoke at the GOP convention in 2008 and tried to derail health care reform in 2009.

Lanny is not one of us, and having advisors like him probably explains why Clinton was so eager to sell us out on NAFTA, GATT, welfare reform, MFN for China, the telecommunications bill, etc.

Knowing that Bill and Hillary have a history with this guy gives me good reason not to be enthused by the prospect of a Clinton 2016 campaign.

The Democratic base needs to demand that folks like Davis, Mark Penn and the rest of their conservacrat ilk will not be a part of a second Clinton White House.
