Could a government default (and subsequent tanking of the economy) actually be the goal of republicans?

"SNIP........................

The financial crisis in 2008 was VERY good for the top 1% (even 10%) in our country. Markets went way up...employment went down and workers lost bargaining rights...social programs were cut.

Why not do it again?

I also believe there's a serious undercurrent of apocalyptica running through the GOP now. They want to be persecuted. They need to believe the end of times is coming (even if they are doing it themselves) because that justifies their moral hostage-taking.

I think we may go over the cliff.

To destroy Obama? I know that rich people can buy up resources and other corporations at rock bottom prices during a recession. So recessions are not always bad for them. Would the Kochs do this? I mean it isn't as if the GOP has not already tried and succeeded in making sure the economy recovers as slow as possible?

how bold, nervy and evil they are. You think they might be up to something and you automatically say to yourself "no... they wouldn't". But they would and do.

no doubt hold that delusional thinking. The Koch brothers are probably leveraging to profit from a default, as OP is positing.
