(51,311 posts)Peter Criss, one of the founding members of the rock and roll megaband KISS is raising money for breast cancer three years after beating the disease. Breast cancer is very rare in men only one percent of all breast cancer cases occur in males. An estimated 1,970 new cases will occur in men for the year 2010 according to the National Cancer Institute. Of those about 390 will die. New cases of breast cancer in women for the same period is estimated to be 207,090 with 39,840 deaths. (Source: National Cancer Institute)
Mr. Criss is now 64 years old and cancer-free. He says there is nothing embarrassing about a diagnosis of breast cancer for men, and that men should seek medical help immediately if they notice anything wrong. He remarked, I never thought I could catch anything. And then there it was.

(118,345 posts)Is America today suffering an epidemic of gun violence? And if so, what should we do about it?
Well .. I .. uh .. um .. y'know, I've noticed that when President Obama was discussing the Trayvon Martin case, he didn't say anything about breasts. And that troubles me. Breasts are an important part of American life today. You can't turn on your TV without seeing breasts. Magazine covers are filled with them. So we ought to be thinking about how they're related to gun violence. Guns don't kill people. What actually kills people? Maybe we ought to be looking at breasts more. Thousands of innocent women are killed each year by their breasts. So I thought, why isn't President Obama talking about this? And why are women so passive in the face of this threat? Because it's not guns that kill people.

(21,786 posts)are more prone to heart disease, several cancers (including oesophageal, colon, etc) related to prevalence of lifestyle factors. Health expenditures are significantly higher for women, but that's largely due to two things: OB/GYN (prenatal/perinatal/antenatal care and childbirth, menopause), and the fact that overall women seem somewhat more likely to see a doctor if they're ill rather than just ignore symptoms and wait for it to pass.
