U.S. Chamber of Commerce backs Republicans who oppose shutdown

http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/bulletin/us-chamber-of-commerce-backs-republicans-who-oppose-shutdown/31422

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says that it will make campaign donations to Republicans that vote to end the government shutdown and raise the debt ceiling, putting it at loggerheads with the Tea Party.

That is significant, because The Chamber provides a financial counter balance to House incumbents that could face a primary challenger if they support a “clean” continuing resolution to fund the operation of the U.S. government or to raise the sovereign debt that can be issued by the United States Treasury to avoid a default.

Some influential Republican donors are now threatening to withhold their contributions to the National Republican Congressional Committee over the shutdown strategy, the Daily Beast reports. The organization’s chairman, Rep. Greg Walden, told attendees at a closed door meeting last month that Republicans were forced into the shutdown by its hard right Tea Party wing and that candidates that objected to it would lose primaries.

In this case we agree with the chamber of commerce. But, in most we don't regarding environmental and labor policies etc.

It's providing a respected, firm, corporate, Republican base for the moderates to rally behind.

Wall Street is objecting a bit here and there which will get louder as the days go by.

At this point, I can't think of any organized "cover" for the Tea Party.

It's just a matter of time and I pray PBO holds out and makes frequent use of the Bully Pulpit. He and the ACA earned it.

Pull your heads out! Stop voting for Repugs. It's easy, don't select anyone with an R next to their name.

Can you remember that for next time?

much like they were in the Bankster Bailouts crisis. Not that we want them in our tent, and not that they would ever cross over. Just let them sort em out within and hurt em bad where it counts, in this case.

"Larger businesses, which often tilt more heavily toward the GOP, are no less frustrated. It’s hard to find any organization more closely affiliated with the Republican Party than the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In 2012 the business trade group spent $35,657,029 on federal elections, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Of that, $305,044 was spent on behalf of Democratic candidates. Last year the Chamber went further to help Republicans than it ever had by running ads directly against candidates: It spent $27,912,717 against Democrats and only $346,298 against Republicans."

This was discussed some on DU last week, but here's a direct link.

Republicans Are No Longer the Party of Business
The bottom line: Business owners and GOP-friendly donors like the Chamber of Commerce are losing patience with the shutdown.

That was on Oct 3. It was only a very short matter of time.
