Latest RWNJ Heart Attack: AmberAlert.gov Down, Michelle's LetsMove.gov Still Up????
Well, it's true, isn't it?
Go to AmberAlert.gov right now. You'll find a stunning little message: "Due to the lapse in federal funding, this Office of Justice Programs (OJP) website is unavailable."
Now go to LetsMove.gov, Michelle Obama's signature program. It's still there!
The outrage among the ODS readers of Glenn Beck's The Blaze and other wingnuttery sites is palpable. But it's completely misplaced. Like so many of Beck's hack jobs, the entire controversy is constructed out of ignorance. The OJP website is not a site that issues Amber Alerts. Those are issued by state and local authorities. It's not even a central location to find all Amber Alerts. It's there to show how the DoJ is assisting state and local authorities in creating and maintaining Amber Alert programs.
And as anyone can see, the Let's Move website has not been updated since September 30, the day before the shutdown began.
And by the way, RWNJs, here's a thought - if John Boehner and the Tea Party House GOP had allowed a vote on the Senate's "clean" CR, the government would not have shut down and the OJP website would not be unavailable right now! And you could go park at the Chickamauga Battlefield without having to move an orange cone (a complaint of one of my Alabama relatives) and all the veterans could have gotten to the WWII memorial without having to flank a battalion of House GOP members seeking a photo op.
P.S.: I put "clean" in scare quotes up there, because the CR John Boehner won't allow for a vote in the House is one that the Senate compromised on with him to fund the government at sequestration levels. It's $70 billion less than a normal budget would be. But Boehner reneged on a deal to allow the vote after he got that concession from the horrible, terrible, very bad Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats. So the "clean" CR is actually best described as a negotiated CR. Two debunks for the price of one!
