(492 posts)to be the vainglorious, empty, soulless, crass, spineless political coward who could have saved the Republic but chose, instead, to let it crumble into ruin. Unlike all of the worthless, obstructionist Teapartiers, Boehner is doing it not for reasons of ideology (albeit a puerile one founded on ignorance and nourished by racism), but for reasons of personal ambition and prestige: simply put, he'll let the Republic perish if that's what it takes to keep his title. Ironically, of course, the very way he chooses crass ambition over patriotism diminishes, tarnishes -- even erases -- the prestige of the position.
As the ship of state sinks because of a leak, Boehner holds the only plug available and refuses to use it unless the ship's Captain agrees to throw all of the steerage passengers overboard.

(47,953 posts)If they get paid back, then they will be ok. I know that there are some who will not be. The thing that really worries me is that the Senate has gone along with the t-baggers in the budget, the CR they are fighting about actually is only 20 billion more than the Paul Ryan nutcase budget level. 300 billion (1/4) less than the Senate had approved in spring. So we get screwed even if the t-baggers back down.
Meanwhile the DOD keeps purring along as a very well fed cat. 18% increase in the last CR.

(2,606 posts)I heard an EPA employee saying a lot of people where he was working would be voting for Bush, they said things won't change much and Clinton had them doing too much community outreach not real work enforcing the laws.
Wonder what he's thinking after 8 years of Bush and now a shutdown. Probably noticing a bit of a difference now.

Funny thing, Bush's admin was just as gung ho for 'outreach and education' as Clinton. At least in terms of what was going on at NSF.
