Rush Limbaugh Apologizes To Sandra Fluke For Calling Her A 'Slut'

Rush Limbaugh has issued an apology for calling student Sandra Fluke a 'slut' on his radio show this week--comments which ignited a media firestorm, caused advertisers to flee from his show, and even prompted President Obama to weigh in. From Limbaugh's website:

"For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone's bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices."

to take the pill for her ovaries. She had to have an ovary removed when she couldn't get the pill anymore. It had nothing to do with "social activities," even though taking the pill IS taking "personal responsibility" so women won't have unwanted pregnancies which could lead to abortions, which RWers are even MORE against (I thought).

Attempt to be humerous my ass. It was a bald faced vitriolic attack in the same vein as all the other bald faced vitriolic attacks he has made on women. He needs to learn the meaning of the word "consequences".

Continue the boycotts. Continue to insist that we be treated with the respect we deserve. He needs to go.

I like to correct my friends on their use of that word when i tell them a sad story.

Sad means you have empathy. Sorry means you had something to do with it.

It increases the apology to whomever you have hurt.

Rush says "Words mean something"

But not in this case... he is not sorry or else he would use THAT WORD.

And it's pretty easy to see the motivation for it. His sponsors are dropping like flies and he has to do something to stop the procession. He won't get fired for it, but I think the fat piece a shit has just discovered that there are limits to what he can get away with. Just like when his TV show went down the crapper and when he got fired from ESPN for making racist comments, he has been slapped down again.

Nobody should fall for this. Keep the pressure up on the advertisers. It must be working or he never would have gone this far.

The classic "I'm sorry if anyone was offended" nonapology followed by a justification. But yeah, to answer his question, where do we draw the line, Limpballs? Why should 'we' pay for boner pills for impotent phat phucks like you?

I can't say I find Rush's "apology" believable. I'm less inclined to believe in Rush's general contrition than I am in my belief that either Rush's sponsors or Rush's buddies in the Republican Party got to him. Rush's sponsors would have told to retract on account of the threat of a boycott to their image and their bottom line, the Republican Party aparatchkii because Rush's comment poses a threat not only to the electoral chances of Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney, but also to a LOT of down-slate Republican candidates at the federal, state, and local levels.
