Kirk Cameron: Homosexuality is unnatural, detrimental, destructive to foundations of civilization

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is taking on the 1980s sitcom actor for comments Cameron made to CNN’s Piers Morgan.

Morgan asked the former Growing Pains star and evangelical Christian if he thought homosexuality was a sin. “I think that it’s unnatural,” Cameron replied on Friday’s Piers Morgan Tonight. “I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

Cameron was also asked about gay marriage:“I believe marriage was defined by God,” Cameron said. “Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the Garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either. So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”

GLAAD shot back: “In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character,” said Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD. “Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans … with an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything.”

...he reportedly had issues with Playboy Playmate Julie McCullough playing his "love interest" because...well, because she was a Playmate.

Julie McCullough landed the role of nanny Julie Costello on the television show Growing Pains in 1989. She appeared in eight episodes until she was fired in 1990, which allegedly stemmed from series star Kirk Cameron's conversion to evangelical Christianity, a conversion that, according to The E! True Hollywood Story episode focusing on the show, served to alienate him from his fellow cast members, as he did not invite any of them to his wedding. Though Cameron reports that he did not call for her to be fired in his 2008 autobiography Still Growing, and the show's producers have claimed that Julie's character was never intended to be a permanent character, the long-told story is that Cameron called for McCullough's termination because of his objections to her having posed nude in Playboy, accusing the show's producers of promoting pornography. A decade later, Cameron apologized to his TV family for some of his prior behavior due to his lack of maturity. He reportedly did not reconcile with McCullough, however, who claims that Cameron refused to speak to her during a later encounter, and who remains critical of him, stating that she lost a lot from the public criticism she endured from the controversy. Although McCullough herself is Catholic, she has criticized the evangelical television programming Cameron has produced, which she has viewed on one occasion, saying on her MySpace page:

“He thinks if I read science books that I'm going to hell. I would rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints ... the sinners are much more fun. And a lot more interesting than some book-burner who is still having growing pains. I am at peace with God. Kirk thinks people like me are going to Hell, if I do then at least I'll go well informed and well read.”

After the Growing Pains scandal, McCullough made several television appearances on Beverly Hills, 90210, Jake and the Fatman, Harry and the Hendersons and Drexell's Class.

To the second, they rate "entertainment value" pretty low. The important thing is to drive home the "bible-based" moral lesson with a sledgehammer.

I think the most appalling thing is the constant need for collective, outside reinforcement of their beliefs. It's like they have no faith in their own faith.

I think you might look where there is the highest rate of divorce and who's divorcing. Homosexuality has been around for thousands of years and hey, I see we got more than enough of "be fruitful and multiply."

I think those who don't respect their partners, domestic violence and treating your partner like chattel, destroys the bonds of matrimony. But, keep your head up in the clouds-it's all of those gay people destroying families.

One man, his wife, and her servant.

One man, his several hundred wives and concubines and someone else's wife too.

One woman, an angel, the Holy Spirit, and some other dude, and oh wait, HER mother was somehow "immaculate" too? Oh wait, that's New Testament. Still pretty kinky.

Let's just leave David and Jonathan out of this. They actually seemed like a relatively healthy happy couple by Biblical standards.

Me thinks he has had more gay sex in his lower parts than he wants the rest of us to know. The most rabid anti-gay men are usually in serious denial of their sexuality against which they have been fighting. I would say I had empathy for him if his hateful, unchristian statements didn't have the potential to harm others.

He needs serious psychological help but I doubt he will seek that. Instead he will dance with snakes the pretend to make love to his female companion.

Let me know when Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Norman Goldman, or Mike Malloy ever appear on Piers Morgan to discuss political issues instead of the typical party line robots whether in the (D) or (R) party. (Rhodes has hilariously called Morgan "Pierce Brosnan", referring to the James Bond actor, funny reference since both Piers/Pierce are from the British Isles.) Or when Richard Dawkins, James Randi, or PZ Myers are on to criticize religion/superstitious belief instead of hacks like Cameron preaching in primetime. Geez, Morgan is nothing more than a corporate ass kisser instead of a real interviewer. That's why I prefer PBS interview shows Tavis Smiley and Charlie Rose.

http://www.tmz.com/2012/03/05/tracey-gold-kirk-cameron-gay-piers-morgan-growing-pains/?adid=hero4#.T1VoT4cge2o

Tracey Gold is neither sharing the laughter nor the love with her former "Growing Pains" co-star Kirk Cameron after he blasted gay people on CNN.

Gold went to her Twitter page last night ... and posted, "I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all. #NOH8 #LOVE."

In fact, the image on Gold's Twitter page is a photo from the pro-gay rights NOH8 campaign.

As we previously reported, Kirk ignited a firestorm Friday night when he appeared on "Piers Morgan" and said, "I think (homosexuality is) ... unnatural. I think that it's detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."
