Laura Ingraham: Obama Didn't Call Me When Ed Schultz Called Me A Slut

Laura Ingraham: Obama Didn't Call Me When Ed Schultz Called Me A Slut

Conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham is attacking President Obama for his phone call to Sandra Fluke Friday. Last year, liberal radio talker and MSNBC host Ed Schultz called Ingraham a "right wing slut" on his radio show, was suspended by MSNBC and apologized. Ingraham publicy accepted the apology and Schultz returned to the air.

Now, with fellow conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh under fire for calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke "a slut", Ingraham is going after President Obama for publicly supporting Fluke against Limbaugh.

On Saturday, Ingraham tweeted this:

Ed Schultz called me a slut last May...still waiting for Obama's call.

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entries/laura-ingraham-obama-didnt-call-me-when-ed

So does this mean that Ingraham supports suspending Limbaugh and demanding that he issues an apology to Fluke?

What about Bill O'Reilly and the rest of the Republicans/pundits who have been piling on?

The interesting thing is that Ingraham's only concern appears to be that the President called Fluke to express support at a time when she is being viciously attacked by prominent members of the Republican Party and the right wing.

Schultz was condemned and no one was jumping in to agree with him, certainly no prominent bloggers, pundits or public officials on the left.

Still, what are the chances that Limbaugh will be suspended? What are the chances that he'll issue an apology to Fluke?

Ed used that awful word in an utterance in which he paid the price. The station bosses came down on him. There was no reason for The POTUS to step into the fray because it was handled. There is none of that with Rush. And what he is doing is not an utterance. He is explaining why she should be called a "slut" day after day. And there is no one to step forward to suspend Rush or hold him accountable. This is typical of the RW to somehow feel that there is no fair playing field for themselves. Cry me a river Laura.

Not that you already don't know and just aren't trying to mislead and taunt. But here goes:

1. Ed Schultz called you a "right-wing slut." This was wrong, but the meaning was metaphorical, not literal. Like when I say, "I'm a real slut for arugula pizza." He meant you fall for any right-wing meme that comes around.

2. Rush Limbaugh called Ms. Fluke a literal "slut": his meaning was that she is sexually promiscuous; that sleeps around with people and thus has a need for birth control. He said this because she was advocating for women's health issues.

3. Ed Schultz had to (or chose to) take a week's unpaid leave for making his metaphorical statement about you, and he apologized. Rush Limbaugh has neither apologized nor suffered any consequences.

Stop taking us for fools.

And anyone who deliberately goes into a field where they will become public figures knows the risks that come with that.

Fluke was only trying to exercise her rights as a citizen and was denied that. The "slut" insult was the icing on the cake.

he tossed out a nasty term. He didn't go on and on and on for three days.

Also, Ingraham is a public figure known for her rightwing bullshit. Fluke is a college student who spoke to Congress on behalf of other college women, about health care. That's called DEMOCRACY.

There is no parallel here.

Ed Schultz apologized and was immediately punished by the network that he worked for. Schultz was roundly condemed by even his fellow hosts on MSNBC and other traditional media personalities. Limbaugh is protected by the likes of Fox and Clear Channel. Limbaugh has doubled and tripled down on his vile attacks, he has no intention of apologizing. The right has launched an full fledged attack on Ms. Fluke. Laura, why don't you launch a full throated denounciation of Limbaugh instead of trying to change the subject?

and took a 3-day suspension. He used the word "slut" once during an angry rant. While the word was inappropriate and ill-chosen, he was using it in a metaphorical sense without any intent to cast aspersions on Ingraham's personal behavior. In contrast, Limbaugh directly impugned Sandra Fluke's morals and spoke in graphic and disgusting terms about her (imagined) sex life - including demanding she make porn tapes for him to watch. He doubled down and amped up the slander for three days.

Poor little victim Ingraham, however, is a radio personality in her own right with her own powerful media megaphone and the ongoing ability to say whatever she wants on the air. Sandra Fluke is a private citizen who merely tried to exercise her First Amendment right to comment on an important and controversial issue but was denied the opportunity to testify at the official hearing.

But if Ingraham wants to claim an equivalent injury, isn't she in effect saying that Limbaugh was just as wrong as Schultz?

I would like to use a few choice words of my own to describe Ingraham...

It’s that fearlessness — he acknowledged that some people would probably be uncomfortable with some of his remarks about religion, not to mention calling Sarah Palin a “cunt” (“there’s just no other word for her”)

Maher did give $1M to Obama's SuperPAC. While he is not a complete equivalent to Rush he does exercise considerable influence in liberal circles. Should Obama be asked about this in light of the $1M contribution?

she's a national public figure who is on syndicated radio talk show. Very different from a private citizen who gave a statement to Congress and appeared on a couple of talk shows.

And is Schultz said that, I'm guessing it was a spur of the moment slipup, as opposed to Rush's PLANNED, prepared segment of his show, with ample time to write and re-write it.

A. You're a public person with your own megaphone in the form of radio and television shows. He figured you could fight back, equally; and,
B. Your voice sounds like fingernails on a nasally chalkboard. No one should be subjected to that.
