A St. Louis-area teacher was fired because he got married to his longtime partner. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch broke the story regarding Al Fischer, a music teacher at St. Ann Catholic School was fired from his job which he had held for years. The article states many parents are upset at the firing because of the "impressive work" put into the music program at the school.

Here's a look at Fischer's case.,,,

* Fischer has been with his same-sex partner for 20 years. He claimed that faculty and staff at the school knew he was gay and that many parents of his students also were aware of his sexual orientation long before he was fired.

* The case is similar to one in Charlotte, N.C., in which a music director was fired for marrying his long-time partner. Steav Bates-Congdon was fired in January from St. Gabriel Catholic Church after he got married in New York, according to the Charlotte Observer. The 10,000-member church is one of the largest Catholic churches in North Carolina. Bates-Congdon, 61, had been with the church since 2004 and was open about his homosexuality since he was interviewed for the job.
