Md. man who shot famous JFK Jr. photo dead at 76

WASHINGTON (AP) — The photographer who took the iconic picture of John F. Kennedy Jr. saluting his father's casket during the president's 1963 funeral has died.

Stan Stearns died Friday of cancer at a hospice in Harwood, Md., said his son Jay Stearns. He was 76.

Stearns was working for United Press International on the day of the funeral, Nov. 25, 1963. Though television cameras captured the moment, it was Stearns' shot that became the historic image.

He later opened a photography business in Annapolis.
