Paul calls Limbaugh comments 'crude'

Paul calls Limbaugh comments 'crude'

Posted by
CNN's Gregory Wallace

(CNN) – Ron Paul became the latest presidential hopeful to weight in on controversial and incendiary language used by radio commentator Rush Limbaugh to describe a college student, telling reporters Friday the remarks were in poor taste.

"It sounded a little crude the way it came across to me," Paul said. "I don't know why it has to be such a political football like this, so you have to ask him about his crudeness."

The Texas representative - who spoke after an event in Seattle, Washington – was the latest in a series of both Republicans and Democrats uncomfortable with the comments made by the conservative radio show host, who on Wednesday said a college student who spoke out in favor of insurance coverage for contraception was a "prostitute" and a "slut."

After ignoring a question on the matter earlier in the day, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used." Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that Limbaugh was being "absurd." A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner said the comments were "inappropriate."

On edit: CNN's title should have been: Paul calls Limbaugh comments "a little crude."

It's more hedging by Republicans. His comment weren't "a little crude." They were inappropriate and vile.

And Paul knows exactly why this issue is a "political football." All he has to do is look at the actions of his party.

The Republican Party is having a meltdown

3. What? As a doctor, Paul should understand more than anyone Sandra Fluke's position

that contraception is for more than just birth control. Fluke merely told how one of her classmates lost an ovary because Catholic-affiliated Georgetown university refused to provide contraception -- a hormonal therapy that would have alleviated ovarian cysts.

Limbaugh was way out of line to repeatedly call Fluke a slut, a prostitute, and insinuated that the 23-year-old's parents shouldn't be proud of her. Paul should condemn such bully tactics, and since Paul didn't do that, then one needs to question Paul's lack of courage.

Limbaugh is really getting hammered for his "she's a slut." talk by the Republican Presidential candidates!

Oh and Newtie? Newtie fails to criticize Limbaugh but "weighs in" by saying Obama was being opportunistic for calling Fluke!

You really can't make this up.

I used to be in local radio myself, and I saw first-hand how this really does make a difference. In one case, personally, this stuff literally saved my job!

I wonder, if someone had made such a comment about Paul's Mother, would he have called it "a little crude?" Dear Mr. Paul, I have to say that I find you to be a little bit of a spineless wimp.

10. Not one of the GOP finalists has the balls to call Rush out about this. That alone should be

a disqualifier for them and I think it will be but the RW will not rest until they find a way to steal the election. Either by disenfranchisement or by pushing there 3rd party candidate, Buddy Roemer, whose message is curiously being touted on the MSM every day since the GOP's implosion over contraceptions. Roemer has the message that would attract a lot of independents and disaffected Dems away from Obama. Keep your eyes and ears open for often you will see him now that Rush has put the nail in the coffin.

11. Limbaugh

is dictating the direction and tone of the Republican Party, and these complicit and cowardly politicians are more than happy to go along.

The only reason they're having to comment is that this blowhard is being allowed to escalate his vile attacks. He gets a pass, which is an invitation to the likes of Bill O'Reilly to join in. Then Republican politicians turn the bile being spewed by this blowhard into a criticism of Democrats.

It's disgusting!
