What were Barack Obama's financial circumstances growing -up?

I'm writing an article. (Or trying to.) On a related topic.

Grandma Dunham worked for a bank... as I recall. In what capacity? Did mom's parents finance her life in Indonesia? If so , to what extent? And what about Gramps ( Stanley.) ? Any significant $$$ there?

I know the period w. Solo (sp. ?) appears to have been not very prosperous but the future president always managed to attend elite ( even the one Indonesian "public school" he went to briefly appears to have been a preserve of the Jakarta government elite) schools.

Seems likely he could have skated thru on scholarships..... god knows he was smart enough.

So... what do you know?

With all the books that have been written about Obama's upbringing and early career, you turn to a discussion group for your information? If you have no access to books, perhaps you could try google.
