1993: When the repubs & rush forced rush on the troops' airwaves

The Pentagon did a survey about Armed Forces Radio programming. The results of the 50,000 troops surveyed included .02% who wanted limbaugh's spew on their radio and only 3.9% wanted any talk radio. The troops wanted more music and sports; not more talk radio.

In the usual republican way of 'supporting' the troops, 70 republicans, led by Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove) and Sen. John W. Warner (R-Va.), made a PR nightmare for the Pentagon with the aid of limbaugh and his dittoheads, of course, squealing about rush's First Amendment right to have a stage, a megaphone, a captive audience, and to make millions from his 'free' speech.

Ignoring 99.08% of the troops, rush and the republicans forced rush into the AFR programming line-up.

The following year, the repubs in congress would make rush an honorary member.

Here are two links to a couple of the stories from that time. I was there. It was ugly.

There are a few more details in the articles linked below.

1. The troops STILL want more music and sports, I'd wager.

Fortunately, the internet has pretty well fucked AFRTS. If you can get online, you don't have to depend on that shit anymore.

2. Possibly. I wonder if we'll ever find out?

This is also another way to illustrate exactly how the repubs 'support' the troops. Though many of us know that to be shit, this example shows exactly how high it's piled.

5. AFRTS does surveys, periodically.

I don't know if they're polling for that kind of stuff, though. How many times do people have to demand more music and sports before they turn off the radio and head for the net?

When the Pentagon starts cutting, maybe that's one place to do some chopping. With overseas base drawdowns, it's happening already. That's really why we have AFRTS--it has no audience at all in the USA.

They'd be better off working on enhancing internet access. The whole AFRTS paradigm is very post-WW2. A lot of countries take issue with us operating over-the-air in their nation, even if we use a different standard for TV and are highly limited in what radio frequencies we're allowed to use.

It's a dinosaur. Better to improve internet access, and if the USG has anything they need to get out to servicemembers, they can send them an email and attachment.

feel about his crap being broadcast.

If his you're a slut-if-you're-on-BC spew made it into the AFRadio broadcast, my guess would be a few military women wanting to take care of his sorry, cyst-prone ass. Just a guess.

7. 1935: Rush, Sr. rules in favor of 'unwed servant girl' versus wealthy own..er, employers.

The link is to a scanned image of the December 5, 1935 edition of the Southeast Missourian which makes it impossible to copy and paste.

The quick outline is that an 'unwed servant girl', Anna Ware, gave birth to a boy. Her employers, dr. ludwig o. and mrs. nellie muench, stole/kidnapped the infant boy then tried to claim him as their 'Gift from God.'

rush's grandfather, Rush, Sr., ruled in favor of the 'unwed servant girl', Anna Ware.

Interesting case given the current slut-shaming by the current heir to the name, rush limbaugh iii.

I've always been astounded at how easily he convinces his dittoheads that he's a 'man of the people' 'working stiff'.

his grandfather lived to be 104; 1891-1996. He was still a practicing attorney at the time of his death. I would love to find some quotes from Sr. about his cyst-prone, ass-wipe of a grandson.
