Fox Business host Stuart Varney believes that the ongoing government shutdown, while presenting no real threat to the economy, offers an opportunity to "punish" federal workers for "living on our backs."
On the October 2 edition of AM 560's The Big John & Amy Show, co-hosts John Howell and Amy Jacobson interviewed Fox Business' Stuart Varney and asked him about the government shutdown and its effect on workers and the economy. Varney stated, incorrectly, that the shutdown was not having an impact on financial markets or the greater economy before launching into a tirade against federal employees. When asked if federal employees deserved to be recompensed for lost wages during the shutdown, Varney had this to say:
VARNEY: That is a loaded question isn't it? You want my opinion? This is President Obama's shutdown. He is responsible for shutting this thing down; he's taken an entirely political decision here. No, I don't think they should get their back pay, frankly, I really don't. I'm sick and tired of a massive, bloated federal bureaucracy living on our backs, and taking money out of us, a lot more money than most of us earn in the private sector, then getting a furlough, and then getting their money back at the end of it. Sorry, I'm not for that. I want to punish these people. Sorry to say that, but that's what I want to do.
After co-host Amy Jacobson responded that "it's not the federal employees' fault" and that she hates to see them victimized by a political fight, Varney complained that in "the big picture" he is "getting screwed" by government workers who are "living large"

(5,693 posts)And you have property elsewhere.
Ive got single-family homes in California and in Naples and Orlando, Florida. Our primary home is in Bergen County, New Jersey. Weve also got a family farm in New Zealand and a very nice house in Adelaide, Australia, which is near the wine country where my son works. When I travel now, Im far more interested in Australia and New Zealand, and thats not just because Ive got family there. Im especially intrigued by Western Australia, which is a gigantic area rich with natural resources and totally empty of people. I think of it as one of the last frontiers anywhere. Im intrigued by wide-open spaces, an absence of people, and a sort of get-up-and-go frontier mentality. - See more at: http://robbreport.com/Travel/The-Robb-Reader-Stuart-Varney#sthash.iSNqf5Wn.dpuf
Unlike him, Fed employees actually contribute something to society other than hot air and a giant carbon footprint!

He just wants to rape the land of its resources so he can make more money. He's probably already setting the stage.

(3,123 posts)has 7 houses and he's got the nerve to say Federal employees are living large??
Not all of us! I'm a federal employee and damn proud of it! Even though I'm at a GS-6 level (which barely covers my monthly expenses), I haven't had a promotion since 2009, had my pay frozen since 2010, and I've been working at USDA for 10 years, 4 months, and almost 3 weeks. So, for him to say we're living large is BULLSHIT!
And yes, we contribute time, patience, quality customer service, professionalism, and a LOT of humility every.single.day we're on the job. So he can take his 7 houses and ram it!!!
That is all.

(16,916 posts)but if he's saying it merely to increase FOX's ratings, well then he's just fucking EVIL - a man without a soul, selfish to the core, and willing to sell off anything and anyone, including whatever value system he might privately adhere to, just to enrich his financial standing.
Some people would leave the world a better place if they just had a heart attack and dropped dead on the spot.

(5,662 posts)from Pentagon and Treasury employees. Many federal employees are republicans and I'd guess a fair few of them watch Fox. Regardless, part of civil servants' job description is to be non-partisan which of course Stuart Varney knows because wasn't he one of the lead pitchfork holders when the IRS was "targetting" tea party organisations?
And frankly, Stuart, if you think the taxes are too high here, you're welcome to fuck off back to England any time you like.

(2,679 posts)Independent contractors and those big contractors like Halliburton. Those are the people that have been living off the backs of tax payers for decades. Of course rummy slimmed the military down when he was sec of def under that letter for an appointed prez. But when he slimmed it down all he did was take money the defense spent by using lots of their own to do the jobs and out sourced it to his cronies.
