Did Dan Quayle open the "Pandora's Box" for Candidates like Palin,Santorum, and the rest?

I mean think about it. In the 1990s we had all these jokes about Quayle and he couldn't spell, goofy speeches etc. Everyone laughed it off and thought in this day and age do we really need a VP? THAN the big scare came. George HW went to Japan and basically became ill passed out. (I am almost positive) Dan Rather was coming on the air live with Breaking News and he looked White as a Ghost because he was about to say Bush had died and Quayle was President.

I remember after George was found out to be fine all the late night comedians joked at the idea of Quayle being President.

BUT seriously Quayle couldn't even dream of campaigning for President YET 20 years later we have Palin, Santorum and the rest being considered for the President OR at the very least Party leaders-Palin-where what they say is important.

Just throwing out a thought.

Nope, you can blame that on Spiro T. Agnew. n/t HereSince1628 Mar 2012 #1

Bush 1 found out Quayle was an idiot too late. I am still trying to figure out what any advantage there was to Palin. So my theory Agnew was on purpose, Quayle was an accident, and the GOP clown car candidates are pure chaos.

Poppy probably had something to do with his family friend's son shooting Reagan in 1981, so Quayle was insurance that the same wouldn't happen to him.

GHWB knew that once we got used to having Quayle around, GWB would look like a Rhode Scholar.

At a lab at the University of Chicago a experiment was originated to create the perfect Republican candidate for the post WWII world.

First came the Forbes family. What was known at the time about DNA and genetics was the basis for the creation of Steve Forbes. The problem was that there were flaws in the outer hardwear and the model blinked alot. No good for TV but it would have it uses.

Next was the Danforth's of Indiana. A new concept emerged in which they pro-actively avoid the name connection and planted the seed into a Quayle. The previous problems with appearance were fixed but the inner wiring was a mess. A member of the Walker/Bush clan agreed to introduce this model to the American public but the flaws were too great to ignore and it failed to gain market penetration, specifically the lack of spellcheck.

On the shelf was another model that had failed on every level test and had been given a nice cover story in Texas. The Walker/Bush clan also was particularly embarassed as they believed themselves to be the most upper level of breeding elite. Desperate for a candidate, and some say holding onto to delusional devotion to the original program, the Bush model was presented to the public. It had better success in the market than the Danforth model but that was only due to an extensive public relations campaign on the nations airways.
