The officer who was injured in during a car chase and eruption of gunfire at the Capitol on Thursday is in stable condition, according to the Capitol Police.

United States Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine said the officer had been struck during the incident, though he didn't clarify whether it was by gunfire or by a vehicle.

"He appears to be conscious and breathing," Dine told reporters Thursday afternoon, shortly after the incident.

U.S. Capitol Police will hold another news conference on a reported shooting near the Capitol building at 4:15pm ET.
