Democrats are apparently NOT allowed to be "Partisan"

whereas Republicans can be as partisan as they like. WTF is up with the media and this insane double standard, particularly when it comes to President Obama? President Obama ran on a message of national unity, true enough, and for the most part, he has bent over backwards, forwards, and sideways, to try to work with Republicans- to the point where he is seen by some as trying to work more with Republicans than his fellow Democrats- but the Republicans have been nothing but, in short, nasty towards him and have worked to obstruct him and the Democrats in Congress at every turn. Yet whenever President Obama has stood his ground, called out the Republicans for the obstructionist jerks that many of them are, suddenly the Republicans get the vapors and take to the airwaves bemoaning his "divisiveness" and "partisanship" and the corporate media gives them a platform to spew even more nastiness and lies!

...with all its "Big Tent" talk.

There are some people whose attitudes/goals should get them kicked out of the tent.

I mean DU isn't that powerful is it? I find it a valuable and interesting discussion board, but do you really think we set the tone in the media?

The reason is that Democrats are generally in favor of Tolerance and in favor of Government working. Our friends on the right are generally opposed to Tolerance and to Government Working - so we take more of a hit when we are partisan or when it's perceived that we aren't making Government work; that plus the fact that Centrist DLC Democrats generally play the media a bit better than the more liberal representatives creates a case for us being the non-partisan faction.

It is a problem, particularly in this case when it's so clearly the Republicans being obstructionist - polls generally show the American people seeing through this nonsense, but they do seem to want to suggest equivalency, which hurts us more.

Its like if you found out the town minister (in the 1800s perhaps when such things mattered) was sleeping around you might be shocked, but if you found out the town drunk was sleeping around it probably wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. And if the town gossip said "I saw both the Minister and the Town Drunk going into the bordello" it'd hurt one's reputation more.

I have NO friends on the right.

Not the right that we're dealing with today!

I consider that a moral imperative.

Feel good saying that? Feel good putting me in my place?

I have friends and relatives on the right - and if you don't like that than (remainder of message deleted in advance).

there is a time and place to attempt to be bipartisan and part of the reason I voted for President Obama is, after going through what we went through with "Bush the Decider", I was eager to have a President willing to try to work on unifying the country to deal with the challenges left behind by Bush's "Reign of error" and other things neglected by politicians in DC for a long time. However, there is a time and place where you have to stand and fight- like the point where we are at right now. I don't hear many (any?) voices calling for Democrats to back down and capitulate to Republicans right now and President Obama has certainly stopped mincing words as well.

To Republicans compromise means they get what they want and Democrats get nothing.
So I guess if not caving in to terrorism is some how being partisan while holding the country hostage is compromise.

Only in the little minds of Republicans can you lose the election and still make demands, then loose the next election and shut the government down be bipartisanship.

I am sick of the the media giving the Republicans a free pass. I guess if the "great orange one" Bonehead has a drunken hallucination and see pink elephants and purple unicorns it will be breaking news of two new species discovered in Washington.

has thought themselves inviolate and sacred, while every Democrat is the devil. It's how they operate.

The truth is, that most of them project their character on their opponents and can't stand it when the people themselves point it out to them. You can't have a conversation with a Republican without them slipping in a round of finger pointing no matter what you are talking about. You could discuss the moon, and somehow, the Democrats will be blamed for it being yellow instead of red, and that the cycle of it is 28 days because the moon is too "pro-women".
