So I have this good friend who is a graduate student and she is doing research at NIH. I can't go into specifics but she is doing experiments on mice. The experiments are humane.

She is not permitted back into the building until after the shutdown. Her mice will likely die of starvation within a day or two.

And all of her graduate research will be invalid so she can't defend her thesis.

Way to go GOP.
