Boehner Tells Republicans He Won’t Let the Nation Default

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/04/us/politics/debt-limit-impasse.html?_r=0

WASHINGTON — With a budget deal still elusive and a deadline approaching on raising the debt ceiling, Speaker John A. Boehner has told colleagues that he is determined to prevent a federal default and is willing to pass a measure through a combination of Republican and Democratic votes, according to one House Republican.

The lawmaker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Mr. Boehner had said he would be willing to violate the so-called Hastert Rule if necessary to pass a debt-limit increase. The informal rule refers to a policy of not bringing to the floor any measure that does not have a majority of Republican votes.

Other Republicans also said Thursday that they got the sense that Mr. Boehner would do whatever was necessary to ensure that the country did not default on its debt.

Representative Michael G. Fitzpatrick, Republican of Pennsylvania, who was one of just 22 House Republicans this year who helped Mr. Boehner pass three crucial bills — to avert a fiscal showdown, to provide relief for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and to pass the Violence Against Women Act — with a majority of Democratic support, said he expected that he may be asked to do so again.

*end*

If this is true, Boehner does something good for once.

Boehner talks a lot. Actual follow through? Not so much. All the while he is saying what he is going to do people are suffering. A real leader would have gotten this done last Friday.

They would be hurt by this too.

These little tyrants threatening to burn down the neighborhood if they don't get their way, would be burning down the estates, mansions and castles, not just the shacks the rest of us peons inhabit.

The Republicans will eventually cave. They pretty much have to, because there's no where else for them to go. All of this is just a temper tantrum designed to see what they could get out of Obama. And now that they realize they're not going to get shit, they're eventually going to have to give in.

And boy, am I gonna have some fun with a few Republicans I know when they do.

This is a man who is currently holding our nation hostage, just because the person who is holding the gun to the hostage's head says he is not going to shoot does not mean we should trust his words. Boehner has proved this week that he is willing to screw over the entire nation to get his way, there is no reason we should trust him on this especially when he is not willing to say it publicly and instead has his words leaked to the press by an anonymous source.

I'll save the accolades for when he actually does it. The check may be in the mail, but I won't believe it until it arrives and doesn't bounce.

He should have done it in the first place. I hope (if this is true) he comes out looking like the whipping boy that he is. I want to be cruder, but I just let it rip to my husband, who agrees.

Then you're actually admitting (unwittingly perhaps) that you could end the government shutdown today.

On one hand that's great, and on the other hand what about the shut down but because I am a mutant and have three hands - on another hand why should he get lots of praise for doing what he is supposed to do in the first place? Pass something totally cool like gun reform, immigration reform, rebuilding stimulus, real tax reform, real banking reform, real climate bills and maybe I'd say awesome great job.
