No you idiot, this is NOT Obama's fault.
I work at a corporation swarming with Republicans. One of them, a co-worker that I actually like and get along with just fine, mentioned the shutdown, partly because it's impacting what we do.
She looked at me with a smug smile and exclaimed, "Well, at least I didn't vote for Obama!".
I laughed and said, "What do you mean? This shutdown is on the heads of House Republicans - they have a vendetta against Obama and hate it that the ACA is a law. They're throwing a temper tantrum, hell bent on wreaking havoc and in the process, are hurting a hell of a lot of people. They're acting like spoiled children when they should be doing their jobs and passing a budget. You can't pin this on Obama, so don't even try. He doesn't control the money. I'm surprised you don't know that."
She stopped smiling and shrugged her shoulders, then retorted, "I do know that, but Obama won't work with them on this. He's being unreasonable".
I then went on to explain how things work, that there's nothing to be done with ACA, it's a law and it's been upheld by the SC. The minority in the House who made this shutdown happen are nothing short of extortionists, holding the country hostage. They want things their way or they'll make sure Americans suffer for it and in the process, blame Obama and Democrats for it all. I told her to use her brain and really think about what she's saying before she opens her mouth to talk about the shutdown to anyone else.
I walked away from her wondering if anything I said made a difference.
