I feel as though the basics of this epic standoff are pretty stark and simple:

Either

(a) Obama and the Dems succeed in explaining to America(*) that it's the Republicans who are responsible for what's happening, in which case we win, and probably win Big, or

(b) We fail to sufficiently explain this, in which case all of America loses, and probably loses Big.

(*) and by that I mean enough of America, as the usual 25% will be impervious to reason

x happens if not y happens. x is benign y is disaster for America. How does Obama's choice of word turn something from benign to a disaster?
What are the disaster words?

if enough Americans come out of this blaming the Republicans for it, then the Democrats will be able to make progress righting the American ship of state. If Americans blame the Democrats, or blame "Both Sides," then all of this will ultimately be for nothing.

Either he stands up for the country and abides by his oath, or he protects his flacid Speakership.
right now, his career goals are winning out over the country's best interest.
