GOP Senators Furious: Cruz Sold ‘Snake Oil,’ ‘Never Had a Strategy’

http://www.mediaite.com/online/gop-senators-furious-cruz-sold-snake-oil-never-had-a-strategy/

Republican Senators met with Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) at a private lunch on Wednesday to demand he produce an strategy for getting the GOP out of the political impasse he’d engineered, and then fervently denounced him when he was unable to produce one.

“It was very evident to everyone in the room that Cruz doesn’t have a strategy—he never had a strategy, and could never answer a question about what the end-game was,” one senator told Politico. “I just wish the thirty-five House members that have bought the snake oil that was sold could witness what was witnessed today at lunch.”

“He kept trying to change the subject because he never could answer the question,” the senator said. “It’s pretty evident it’s never been about a strategy—it’s been about him. That’s unfortunate. I think he’s done our country a major disservice. I think he’s done Republicans a major disservice.”

Politico reported that the meeting got extremely tense when Cruz refused to repudiate attacks made against the senators by the Cruz-affiliated group Senate Conservatives Fund. Asked “point blank,” Cruz said, “I will not.”

How did they not recognize snake oil? The GOPers are the world's foremost snake oil experts.

If it requires destroying the national Republican party, so be it.

This strategy isn't' playing well nationally. But it's been widely reported he expected to not win the Senate seat, but was only running to build credibility for a run for Governor.

I would hope and pray that folks in the State of Texas are smarter than that by now. "Fool me once: shame on you! Fool me twice: shame on me!"

Where Republicans put all the blame on Cruz, politically isolate him, and provide no party support to anything he may do.

Then they back their wrecked party out of this cul de sac and move on down the road.

...they are experts in disavowal when the crowd catches on.

If Cruz' little semistance had worked well enough, they'd be applauding him. The plan, however, was to use him to get the shutdown they had to pretend not to want.
