(28,552 posts)... Mr. Obama, no matter how difficult it gets. If these punks get away with this, our entire system of laws will be a shambles. This time, there simply cannot be any compromise whatsoever, not medical device taxes, not delays, not the fluffy bunny is fluffy rider. NOTHING for Teahadists.

Regardless of party affiliation, we are all Americans. This country must pay its bills, and these extortion attempts must be stopped.

(4,407 posts)A big part of why we're in this mess is because Obama and Democrats have allowed the Repubs to extort concessions in previous debt-ceiling battles. That's how the reduced taxes on the rich stayed in place. With the list of demands that came out just before the shutdown - built keystone, kill the financial bureau, hell I'm surprised they didn't include some provision for every Republican get a blow job each day - it seems pretty obvious that the past extortions emboldened them to do it again and ask for a lot more.
So it's high time that Obama and Reid stopped this shit. And, frankly, they played it very well, letting the Republicans talk themselves into the shutdown and making some public statements about how great they thought it was, then not "coming to the rescue" of those idiots. Hopefully this will either teach the Repubs a good lesson or destroy them completely.
It would be really good if it became common wisdom that the idea of voting Republican was voting to damage the economy and country (which it arguably is) and doing so was crazy (which it arguably also is).
