http://samuel-warde.com/2013/10/shutdown-affect/So, as weve all heard by now, Monday night at midnight, the GOP shut down the government in some sort of demonstrative temper tantrum over Obamacare. A law they voted to repeal 43 times. Now, taking symbolic votes over and over again is one thing, but shutting down our government is taking this to a whole other level. While most Americans recognize this is a shitty deal, Teabillies think theyve won a victory. Wrong, my teabagger friends. The government shutdown will affect everyone even you.
Between 800,000 and 1 million federal employees who are not considered essential will not be paid during this shutdown. Basically, the things considered to be mandatory funding in a shutdown are things like air traffic control, national defense, law enforcement, Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and things involved with safety to human life, which ironically now includes Obamacare .the very thing that the Repubs shut the government down over. Yeah, so the government is closed, but Obamacare is up and running just fine. Good job, GOP!!
OK, so say you dont work for the federal government, how does this affect you? Heres a few of the services that will and wont be working during the shutdown .

* Gun Permits CLOSED! The Federal ATF is shutdown. In some places the clerk of court can issue permits, but background checks still must be run through the federal government. So, sorry gun lovers youre shit outa luck. Guess youll have to blame this one on the NRA Tea-Party!

(7,759 posts)1. Be sure to get the names and addresses of those who violate the law and still sell guns.
They can have their licenses revoked and maybe even be sent to prison later.

law enforcement activities are designated as essential services and do not shut down even if the Congress and President fail to agree on funding legislation.
The NICS system will continue to operate.
