Four Head Start providers that serve 3,200 low-income children in four states are closing due to the federal government shutdown.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services said Wednesday four grantees that operate about 50 sites are shutting down after not receiving their funding.

She explained how bad off the child were because Head Start was closing down. The story was quite sad, actually. She ended the interview by saying, "It's so sad when two sides cannot come together and compromise."

The NPR story was well done, but I walked away with two thoughts:

1)All the stories of Head Starts closing and children not getting WIC nutrition is EXACTLY what the Tea Party wanted to happen. I'm wondering how impactful these sad stories really are

2)People who don't know the political issues surrounding the shutdown always comfortably call for a "compromise" and "shutting CONGRESS down". Those responses are lazy and uninformed when realizing that one side has already compromised, and it's not everybody in Congress who should be blamed for this shutdown.
