That meme must be comforting to the employees sitting at home right now.
Colorado Springs and I believe Fort Collins, Colorado have a lot of federal employees sitting home right now. Local news said 19% in Colorado Springs. Fort Collins was 13% I think. Both are very red districts. Lambourn in C.Springs is a teabagger and I believe Cory Gardner in Fort Collins area is also a teabagger.
BTW Cory Gardner is in the part of the state of Colorado where the floods were the worse. His district was heavily damaged. Colorado is paying the bill for the Nat. guard to fix the roads to cut off towns because the federal money is gone. Estes Park now has only one road into town now that Rocky Mountain National Park is closed. Trail Ridge Road cannot be used now and will be snowed in by end of October most likely. The only road into Estes Park adds about an hour to what was a 45 minute drive from Denver. Estes Park is GOP territory.
This shut down will probably delay road reconstruction another six months because the shutdown will cut off funds to fix them. The Governor Hickenlooper (D) set a goal to have the main roads passable by December 1st. I will bet it will be spring before it gets done
now. So it will be a long winter.
BTW the GOP Colorado delegation voted to shut down the government.

(10,602 posts)All that I was responding to was the developing meme that it was a government slow down and not a shut down. The addendum to that meme is that the reason the shut down was not that bad was that "nonessential" employees i.e. those workers not needed to function were the only ones hurting.
Hopefully in time they will be back. Of course, their back pay would be in question. And we know the GOP believes if you have not worked you should not be paid or get anything.
winter is coming

(10,602 posts)I would like to see a map where most of the federal employees are and how red they are. There are huge numbers of federal employees in the South. Florida has a lot of bases. So does Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia et al.
