Brilliant idea regarding the Shutdown! Why don't/can't the Dems do this?

Poster irmsjags says:

Dems should say, "Fine, we'll delay the ACA for a year but let's also add this gun control bill." Then we'll see how the GOP "compromises."

Can't the Dems make demands or add riders to the CRs in the Senate, then send them back to the House?

then the republicants might drop their demand to repeal or delay Obamacare.

Instead of gun control Dems need to demand a repeal and constitutional amendment of Citizens United. Insert a poison pill in the bill that enures the votes for the amendment. Not sure how to do that yet but I am working on it!

9. Ummmmmm ........ Citizens United was not a law they can 'repeal'. It was the shorthand

case name of a USSC ruling. Second, while amendments can be started in congress, they then need to be ratified by the states (75%). Do you really think you will get 38 states to ratify that amendment?

6. To do so would force them to abandon the argument that a clean bill is needed

And the reality is that a clean bill is needed, I support gun control but that is not the way to get it. We need to make it clear that we will not allow unrelated policy positions to be attached to an essential bill that must pass in order to keep the government running. The precedent that is being set here is awful and to tack our own policy on only serves to legitimize the tactic.

7. Dumb idea: Clean bill...legislation isn't meant to operate by budget threat, ever...that's what

makes it fascist.
