It was passed by both the House and Senate.
It was signed by the President and upheld by the Supreme Court.
It's a law
Yet the Republicans don't want to fund it? Do I have that right?

(32,324 posts)Agrees to have the ACA go away.
You know, because it is a legal act that will cause the death of tens of millions, whose bodies will then be cannibalized by UnDead Zombies... (Or is that the plot of a new TV show?)
Once cannibalized, those now Dead UnDead Tens of Millions will no longer be able to vote Republican.
So it is essential that it goes away.

(1,151 posts)It is funded (almost entirely) and that can't change without an act of congress. They are trying to get an act of congress (the budget) to change the old law. They aren't just trying to get the president to ignore the law (like he did with employer mandate). The want congress to change the law.

I think this is really a power struggle within the Republican Party.
I also now believe that it won't end until one side wins and that side will most probably be the Teabaggers.
The Teabaggers honestly believe that Romney and McCain were not conservative enough and that the way to help this country, and their party, is to make sure that the same mistake never happens again.
They want to damage the traditional Republicans so that more of their ilk can primary them and eventually win their way into Congress. The traditional (R)s are screwed. If they are sensible then they get attacked on the right and if they aren't they get attacked on their left. They have chosen to defend their right flank because being attacked from the left is what they are used to. The thing is that this time it is going to far.
The Republican Party is broken and some now seem to think that it must be destroyed before it can be rebuilt (or replaced). I'm all for destroying the Republican Party but I think it is inevitable anyways. I would rather see a more gradual decline than the short term destruction that we are witnessing now. The entire country is paying a price for this one.

(1,151 posts)And Obama doesn't want the employer mandate to go into effect even though it is also the law. Laws change as does the implementation of laws.
The republicans would like congress to pass a new law (next year's budget) which alters the previous law (by not funding the ACA and not having the president implement it). They're being assholes since congress obviously won't do that, but they are trying to alter the law the way laws should be altered (by congress not the president) even if they are using blackmail techniques to do it "the right way".
