Turning the tables on Big Brother: Now internet users can watch who is spying on them

Turning the tables on Big Brother: Now internet users can watch who is spying on them in blow against Google's new snooping policy

Mozilla, the maker of Firefox, has unveiled a new add-on for the popular web browser that gives web users an instant view of which companies are 'watching' them as they browse.

The move comes the same week that Google pushed ahead with its controversial new privacy policy, built to provide even more data for Google's $28 billion advertising business - despite concerns that the massive harvesting of private data might be illegal in many countries.

The Collusion add-on will allow users to 'pull back the curtain' on web advertising firms and other third parties that track people's online movements, says Mozilla CEO Gary Kovacs.

'Collusion is an experimental add-on for Firefox and allows you to see all the third parties that are tracking your movements across the Web,' Mozilla said. 'It will show, in real time, how that data creates a spider-web of interaction between companies and other trackers.'

I did dl and install Collusion, but so far on FF10.0.2 on Ubuntu it isn't doing anything. None of the UIs seem to be working.

because I use Abine, NoScript, and a weather add-on. When I left-clicked it, I got the map page but it's devoid of anything but a menu.

I just tried it again and it appears working.

It do what it do...

that the way to defeat Microsoft's huge monopoly would be for a very smart person (people) to develop an operating system which is geared entirely to user privacy and protection. An operating system which doesn't cache things or embed shit that is completely unnecessary for the actual user.

internet surfer's computer would be without all that shit piling up. I'm sure there are ways to minimize it, but as an average user it pisses me off that the product I bought is wasting my resources saving shit I don't want or need.

It seems a shame it does not allow you to block sites as they come up but it is fascinating to watch.

I got Firefox and collusion at the same time and it screams way faster then it did before. I'm not sure if it would be faster without Collusion running but... I'm not sure it could get much faster anyway.

I think thats what you call it anyway. I've got a question though. I use Ubuntu and I have firefox set in my preferences to no history and then I uncheck the cookies tab and then use the exceptions option to add the websites I trust, like DU, and have to to do business with them such as ebay. I have my third party cookies unchecked also. Anyways since I've installed this when I click on the icon, which I moved to the top right rather than have a status bar, all I get is a black page with on the left of the page collusion and what its for with options of reset graph, export graph and hide UI. My question is what is the hide UI option? simplified for my old brain. TIA

Of course, I didn't have cookies turned off, nor had I set any other privacy settings from their default.

Now I've locked down my browser's privacy settings, and this doesn't happen. Although I still notched a few trackers just getting onto photobucket despite the lockdown, BEFORE I even allowed cookies so I could log in. Pretty pervasive stuff.
