Japanese couple's honeymoon canceled, Grand Canyon National Park Closed
I just met the nicest couple from Japan. I was driving thru Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona when I saw the digital sign that read 'Grand Canyon National Park Closed'.
I pulled over in my car to take the photo below when another car pulled over to the side of the road. I could easily tell that they were processing the sign, so I waived them over to my car. Apparently they are in town for their honeymoon, her husband has wanted to see the Grand Canyon since he was a child in Kumamoto, Japan.
Imagine the look on their faces when I had to tell them that the US Government was shut down courtesy of the US Republican party. My heart nearly fell out of my chest when she began to cry...
After a fews moments I directed them to a few fantastic resorts that are close by in Sedona, I know they were extremely grateful, but a part of me is heartbroken for them.

Again. Imagine what they thought when they understood why the park was closed. Probably came away with the impression that we can't govern ourselves.
