What is everyone hearing from their Republican friend and family?

I'm sitting back and watching their heads explode. They are freaking out. They are trying to say that Obamacare is going to be so horrible that everyone will hate it, which is obviously wrong or they wouldn't have been so desperate to try to stop it. They are at the same time saying they'd be fine to see the government shut down permanently, but at the same time they are nervous about what that will mean to the next presidential election.

People loving Obamacare + people getting more and more upset at Republicans the longer the shutdown goes on = Democrats retaining presidency. Clinton, whoever, doesn't matter at this point.

They are freaking out.

because they hate Ted Cruz with a passion. The other half (sad) blame Marxist Obama and whatever else Foxnews tells them to think and say. It is the usual wrong information, emotional, trainwreck of a clusterfuck the GOP is so good at creating in their constituents.

MIL didn't even care that my husband (her son) would be furloughed in a shut down. She feels his sacrifice is for the greater good of the country Take your medicine now or pay dearly later.

Aunt is just disgusted with Obama and how "he just refuses to negotiate."

but not the wingnut variety. They seem to view this all as spectators rather than participants. Only my mom was concerned but that was just that she is in compliance. She get's medicare so she is fine I told her. I'm a medicaid caseworker so I have been keeping them informed, perhaps that's the difference.

entire party has been taken over by lunatics, is 100% with me on every policy I can think of, and loves Obama. He totally blames the teabagger faction for this shutdown. As a self-employed microbusiness owner, he LOVES ACA.

He's fiscally conservative but a social liberal, and his fiscal conservatism isn't remotely like the current RW fiscal conservatism.

I don't associate with the other kind of Republican, lol. I do have one younger cousin who, in spite of her LUPUS and being a PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEE, thinks gubmint is bad and Obamacare is horrible, gonna bankrupt her fambly, blah blah blah. She complained that her family's medical insurance premiums were going WAAAYYYY up this year and I said DON'T BLAME OBAMA, THAT'S YOUR CORPORATE INSURANCE COMPANY'S FAULT!!!!!

And then she whined that she and hubby make too much money to qualify for a subsidy.

Oh, and the hospital in her community, and all the physician specialists who fly in every week or two, are kept operating by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT because there isn't enough money/demand for services in that remote area to keep it all going without. http://www.wbrhely.org/getpage.php?name=index

Without this evil gubmint-funded health care facility and specialists, she would have to drive 5-6 hours ONE WAY every time she wanted to see a doctor. And generations of her family happen to have been government employees. Her great-grandfather was a deputy sheriff and a police chief. Her grandfather worked his entire life for the state highway department. Her grandmother worked for the US Forest Service and also as a bus driver for the local PUBLIC school system. Her father worked for 20 years for the National Parks system. Her brother worked for the nearby state prison. Her brother-in-law is a career Marine. Oh, and her grandfather and 3 of his brothers served in the US military.

People in NV sure love their government DOLLARS. They just can't stand that they are coming from taxpayers (and in my cousin's case, mostly from other taxpayers because our family has never been anything but middle class, if that).

- because they theoretically exempted themselves from Obamacare and then refusing to allow an amendment to include them (which - if you follow the bouncing ball - is backwards - they are subject to the ACA, and the amendment would have created special restrictions which apply to Congressional employees and no other employee)

- because they refuse to negotiate a compromise (today...after being rejected 18 time when they tried in the past . . . but it's all their fault).

He posted today bemoaning the affordable health care act. Called it Obamacare and then proceeded to tell me he had spent 6 weeks reading the whole bill. He said there was a part in it that says Agents will be coming into our houses to check if we are living a healthy lifestyle.
When I challenged him to tell me where he found that in the law he said he wasn't going to do my homework for me. I then suggested this sounds more like something that would come from faux noise or Glen Beck. he was now getting irritated and said i was calling him a liar because i was to lazy to read the bill.
Later i responded telling him that I had read the bill and did find a section that said the first 1000 applicants in each state would be receiving a flat screen tv to be delivered by Agent Maxwell Smart. and that may be the section that he got his miss-information from. His anger increased a bit but not to the point of name calling. This ended discussion.
Now i did a little search and could find no source either confirming or denying his statement of his agents coming into our houses.
Anybody else hear of this "urban legend"?

Family: My uncle tries to play the false equivalence game, that both sides are to blame. I call bullshit on this and tell him that the House GOP is piloting the government with the same zeal as the 9/11 hijackers.

Facebook Friends: They are deliriously delusional. I've told them the longer this drags on, the worse their party looks. The dumb ones argue against it. The smarter ones, well, okay, they haven't smartened up yet.

Coworkers: Most have no fucking clue what the fuck they're talking about. They're like, "How 'bout that government shutdown?" Yeah, how 'bout the weather, too?

We'll see how it is later in the month, when the polls really start hammering the GOP.
