From PETA:
"We are pleased to inform you that NBC Sports has responded to PETA and compassionate individuals like yourself and has canceled the depraved National Rifle Association (NRA)sponsored big game hunting show Under Wild Skies. As you know, the show depicted NRA lobbyist Tony Makris as he hunted elephants, hippopotamuses, antelope, buffalo, crocodiles, and numerous other exotic animalsincluding one episode in particular that featured Makris laughing as he shot an African bull elephant in the face. Thanks to all of you who responded to our action alert, NBC Sports will no longer include Makris' sadistic exploits in its television programming."

(19,926 posts)about BB as if it is a reality show. Not sure why they brought it up in this thread. Kind of dilutes the power of the OP imo.

(12,665 posts)I've watched vampire movies. Am I going start going around biting people on the neck and sucking their blood?
These two shows are as different as turtles and toothpicks.
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)Vampires are pure fiction. Men trying to dispose of dead humans
is not fiction in the real world...unfortunately.
Sissyk
(12,665 posts)You do know Breaking Bad is fiction, correct? A TV show? Made up?
Right?
KittyWampus
(55,894 posts)Now, make of that reality what you will.
But the fact is, our subconscious mind doesn't see made up story/true story.
It only knows what we habitually focus on.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)You are the one blurring the lines of reality and fiction. Your sentence doesn't even make any sense!
Men trying to dispose of dead humans

YES! IT IS FICTION!!!! It's in the TV show you are talking about, Breaking Bad. THAT IS NOT THE REAL WORLD!!!
omg....
Wait a minute.... am I on Candid Camera???

(14,656 posts)There's so much violence in the world I guess we're supposed to
be immune. WELL, I'm not. eom
cui bono
(19,926 posts)Or that they think everyone is supposed to be immune to violence IRL?
snappyturtle

(19,926 posts)It's not a snuff show.
You realize the difference between reality and something that is a fictional story, right?
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)cui bono
(19,926 posts)Again, you don't seem to realize that Breaking Bad is not a reality show.
There are different types of TV programming.
Reality shows, such as the one this OP was about, where people being themselves, not actors, are out doing real things, albeit pushed to go in "dramatic" directions by producers who long for high ratings.
Documentaries, where things are real (non-fiction) and someone is trying to let us know about that subject. The people in them are not actors, well some might be but they are not acting in the documentary.
Narrative shows that are fiction, they are scripted, they use actors who are acting as characters that are written for the screen by writers. The things that you see never really happen in real life, they are staged and created using visual effects to make it seem like it happened for the person viewing the program.
Breaking Bad is a narrative show that is fiction. None of the crimes and physical injuries really happened. No one was actually murdered, hence there was no body to dissolve in acid, which I'm 99.9% sure was also never really on the set. When you watch TV shows or movies that are fiction everything is fabricated to make it seem that you are seeing things happen that aren't actually happening. The "body" of which you speak was not a real dead body. The "acid" was not real acid. They use props, editing and visual effects to make it seem like it happened to make the story work.
Does that clear it up for you? If not, you should watch a documentary about the making of of some big films, there's a great one about Jaws, to learn more about it.
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)getting the right kind of 'Rubbermaid' type container from a
big box store to fit the body into? When the chemistry teacher's
cohort couldn't find one big enough that he tested out trying to
fit into the teacher said he should have bought two...one for the
legs and one for the torso. Even told the kid the right kind of
plastic to buy....then the kid puts the body in a bath tub when
the teacher was out of the house and the tub was effected by the
acid and they were scraping up bloody guts and bone fragments
off the hallway floor? You think that's ok...narrative or not? I
find that type of programming depraved. I know it's 'just' a
story but how heinous to even dream up such a story line. imho
cui bono
(19,926 posts)by bringing in something that is entirely fictional! I'm sitting here in disbelief that you continue this and act like BB is the same as the tragedy of the the show discussed in the OP.
snappyturtle
(14,656 posts)violence toward animals and cheering another program (a little
search on DU) that cheers violence towards human beings. Sorry
it's just the way my mind works.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)No one is cheering ACTUAL violence towards human beings. If you don't like violent fiction that's one thing, but when you keep equating fiction with reality, well, it's hard not to think you forgot to take your meds this morning. If you are having this much difficulty separating things that actually happen in real life with fictional TV you really do need some help, or don't watch TV, or... something!
snappyturtle

And the way you spoke of it you made it sound like BB is a reality show that actually disposed of dead human bodies in acid.

(15,317 posts)I think you should try to train your mind to work differently and tell the difference. Honestly, do you care about anything, or are all horrible things canceled out because horrible violence on TV! Bizarre.
