A friend on Facebook loves to rant about Obama

He's an attorney, and he's pretty sure he's right about everything, and boy oh boy does he hate Obama.

Most of his Facebook posts begin "I don't want to start a political fight, but Obama..." Currently he's outraged that he wasn't able to log on and use the entirety of the health exchange website first thing this morning. Rather than identifying the system overload as a clear indication of the public's desperate need for health insurance, he sees it as another of Obama's failures. He mocked the system derisively and wrote it off as "more inefficiency from the Fed."

I pointed out that my own insurance provider had to reissue cards to its members not once, not twice, but four times in 2012 before getting it right. Each card was identical to its predecessors except for (I presume) some microscopic but essential detail. So whatever it costs to produce those cards for their thousands of policy holders (plus duplicates for others on each member's policy), multiply that by four and pass that expense on to the customer.

This insurance provider has been in business for decades, and they still fuck things up constantly. Nearly every bill I get has at least one significant error, and when I call to discuss it with an agent, I'm on hold for 15 minutes or so. Apparently that's an acceptable result of capitalism and the free market.

But the government rolls out a brand new program and it isn't 100% perfect from the opening bell, it's an unforgivable failure by the administration.

Now, I don't want to start a political fight, but...

He couldn't help it.

In all seriousness I think people are curious about the rates and the word of mouth talk about it is showing that the ACA plans are better plans. Better than even current employer plans (in a lot of cases, not every case obviously).

It's awesome.

Colorado is still struggling fixing their exchange. It's been almost an entire day and it's just not possible to get in. The demand is overwhelming.

It's like blaming the restaurant owner because one hundred people are ahead of you for seating.

Hell during the House debates right after it went live one of the House Republicans held up a tablet displaying Healthcare.gov not loading. And not one House Democrat rebuffed that as a relatively good thing. It sucks, for our convenience, but it tells us what others are thinking and it's instructive to knowing what the masses are thinking.

He found it - an over-worked website. Call the doctor.
