To Armed Forces Network:

I was a medic in the Army for some years. During that time, many of us women had to fight sexual harrassment and a host of other issues just so we could reserve the right to serve our country just as much as any man. It's still a fight that continues to this day.

What hurts this fight is the likes of Rush Limbaugh who calls women on contraception sluts and prostitutes. He tells women to post their "videos".

This harrassment was fought hard during my time. We had our names publicized if we reported harrassment. I had a superior show up in my room expecting "services" in order for him to help push my promotion along.

Our military deserves to hear all sides, but do the women deserve this? Do they deserve to have this misogyny blasted at them knowing how poorly the military has done in protecting them from attacks?

It's time to stand up for the women of the military and let them know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. Stand up for the women and pull the show from the network.

My letter:
I have always objected to Rush Limbaugh's highly partisan, hate- filled show
being broadcast to the troops--and having my tax dollars pay for it. His
vilifying Sandra Fluke lead me to once again request a better use of my
money, particularly on behalf of the women in the military who do not feel
safe from the men around them. Are Rush's values the values our military
fights for?

Their response:
As a service of the Department of Defense, AFN does not advertise on Mr
Limbaugh's program, offer products for sale, or sponsor any of the programs
we relay to our audience.

The American Forces Network does not censor content and we do not seek to
protect our overseas Department of Defense audience from hearing views with
which they may disagree. Our mission is to offer program choices, which
includes both the one-hour versions and three-hour version of various
popular political talk shows.

Thanks for your support of the troops and for your interest in AFN.

It hasn't changed in years.

I doubt they even read it.

5. When I was wounded in Vietnam, a nurse saved my life

They took me off the medevac chopper and put me on a gurney, rolled me into the 85th Evac Hospital at Phu Bai. The OR's were full, so they rolled my gurney to the side.

It was only because a nurse checked on me and discovered that I'd stopped breathing that they did the enmergency tracheostomy that saved my life.

My nurse happened to be female, but she could as well have been male.

It makes no difference. I don't think the right to health care should have anything to do with gender.

I spent 18 months in an Army hospital, with great care from the women nurses and medics who treated me.

I love women and I especially love nurses and medics. They are the BEST!
