Reid just disemboweled John Boehner, not stopping there.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/john-boehner-hill-obamacare-subsidies-97634.html

With the federal government nearing shutdown, House Speaker John Boehner stood on the House floor Monday and called on his colleagues to vote for a bill banning a “so-called exemption” that lawmakers and staffers receive for their health insurance.

“Why don’t we make sure that every American is treated just like we are?” Boehner asked, seeking to prohibit members of Congress and Capitol Hill aides from getting thousands of dollars in subsidies for their health insurance as they join Obamacare-mandated insurance exchanges.

Yet behind-the-scenes, Boehner and his aides worked for months with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), and others, to save these very same, long-standing subsidies, according to documents and e-mails provided to POLITICO. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was also aware of these discussions, the documents show.

This will further undermine Boehner with his own caucus. This is Reid playing for blood. Leaking private emails is a major step to take, but it's a justified response for Boehner trying to demagogue the issue against Senate Democrats.

But, it's not stopping there. Not content with destroying what remains of John Boehner's credibility,

I also spoke to a leading Democratic congresscritter over the weekend who told me that, very soon, the Democrats in the Senate will start going through the sequester line-by-line, demanding public votes on funding things like medical research and environmental protections, and sticking Republicans with a choice of being for or against curing, say, Alzheimer's Disease or cancer. As someone who thought the sequester not merely stupid but Beltway stupid, I applaud this decision as well. Forcing people into uncomfortable votes works both ways. Making John Boehner cry should be a bipartisan affair.

http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/democrats-thinking-of-leaking-boehner-staff-emails-100113

John Boehner is going to be drawn and quartered, and the worst punishment of all, left in his job as Speaker.

Edited to add:

Harry Reid is just torturing Weepy John. Check out this line:

“Senator Reid appreciates Speaker Boehner’s cooperation and tireless efforts to work through this difficult issue,”

That ought to earn Boehner some Tea Party cred.

These "subsidies" are the health care benefit that federal employees receive as part of their pay. It's nothing more and nothing less than almost any other worker receives when they have an employer who pays a portion of their health insurance premium.

My employer pays 60% of my premium and I pay the other 40%. It's not a fucking subsidy. It's part of my total fucking compensation.

What Republicans want to do is to ass-fuck a lot of people who don't deserve it by essentially cutting their pay -- it's what Scott Walker did to teachers in Wisconsin with regard to their retirement plan. Now these conservative fuck-sticks want to screw the members of their staff (could this sentence be more phallic?) by forcing them to pay 100% of their health insurance costs.

I live in Tom DeLay's old district and my current congresscrittter is an idiot named Pete Olson. Pete is upset about the provision in questions http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/friendswood/opinion/olson-government-must-live-by-the-same-rules-that-the/article_64c8e032-1468-5040-bdf5-66924298fe45.html

D.C. - Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today asked why Democrat Leaders in Washington are willing to shut down the federal government instead of holding themselves to the same laws as the rest of America.

"Really? The President and Harry Reid believe they are more important than the American people? Really? The Senate and President Obama can't even accept one simple provision that puts them on Obamacare? If it's good enough for the rest of America, why isn't it good enough for them?

"Yet, Democrat leaders refuse to even negotiate over a basic concept of fairness. It's deplorable that they feel they can take freedom away from Americans while holding themselves above everyone else.

The trouble is that the so-called congressional exemption is a project that was pushed by Speaker Boehner that is designed to continue the employer contributions that the federal government has been making to help pay for the health care insurance cost for members of congress and their staffs. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/report-boehner-supported-heath-care-subsidies-for-congressional-staff

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) worked with top congressional Democrats behind the scenes to preserve employer contributions for congressional staff's health care plans even as he decried those subsidies in public, Politico reported Tuesday.

Emails and documents obtained by Politico show Boehner and his aides worked with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), among others, to find a way to maintain the long-standing employer contributions. Those documents also show that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was aware of the behind-the-scenes talks.

In addition to those efforts, Boehner attempted to arrange a meeting with President Barack Obama to ask for help in securing the subsidies, the documents show. Although Boehner and the president never met to discuss the contributions, a senior Boehner aide was able to meet with White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough on the issue, according to Politico.

Elimination of the congressional exemption will be a massive pay cut to all members of congress and to all staff members for each member of congress.

The issue of whether lawmakers and staff will continue to receive the employer contribution from the federal government — estimated at between $5,000 to $12,000 annually — has become political kryptonite on Capitol Hill. As part of the Affordable Care Act, lawmakers and aides are required to join insurance exchanges that begin operating on Tuesday, the same day the government shut down.
