Free Classes for Furloughed Workers

Furloughed? Try jiu-jitsu.

That was the message to federal workers on Tuesday from College Park Mixed Martial Arts.

The martial arts facility, located just outside the Beltway, is offering free training for federal employees who are out of work because of the shutdown. . .

The deal is one of dozens local businesses are offering to federal employees affected by the shutdown. The local blog DCist is keeping a list of the free or discounted products and services. So far, the offers include, massages, meals, fitness and even knitting.

I'm glad local businesses are trying to help. I know they are getting something out of the deal (possible repeat business, once the employees actually get paid again), but it's still a nice thing to do.

of those furloughed were maintaining extended families. The food banks need our help more than ever now that the Rethugs have put so many out of work.
