I think my mother finally gets it!

as far as republican fearmongering that is.

Let me preface this by saying that my mother, who is 78 years old and has had a number of surgeries for arthritis related issues, is the kind of person who needs reality to rise up and hit her in the face before she realizes the gravity of a situation. I mean I, her youngest son, would need to come home in a coffin before she finally realzied the reality of the Iraq war. She's just that type of person. So naturally, she has been in a hand wringing tizzy over Obamacare "taking away my insurance". Time and time again she railed away despite my attempts to calm her down. She believed all the propaganda because like I say, reality has to come crashing down on her personally before she will believe something other than the status quo.

Well as it turns out, her previous supplemental insurance was indeed cancelled, but her agent got her into a new plan at no additional cost and it's better then her previous plan. Her orthopedic surgeon who has done her previous surgeries (three knee replacements and one shoulder) honors her new plan, which is good because now she may need her other shoulder replaced. I told her, from now on, no more giving in to republican fear mongering.

Maybe she gets it now...

59 years old, entire shift got dumped for new and less expensive employees. Only found part-time work. Of course no insurance. Has been wailing about having to pay a penalty for The Affordable Care Act. I guessed at her salary and checked it out. She may come out with very, very inexpensive insurance. I'll try not to say, "I told you so", but it might slip out.

Where would someone already on Medicare pick up all that incorrect information about her "insurance"? Church? Radio? Stupid neighbor?

I am a senior and don't know anyone over 65 who was propagandized in that manner.

I am also curious as to why her supplemental was canceled. Did her previous provider pull out of the state? Details please. Also, the "honoring the plan" part is interesting. Did she switch from a supplemental to an advantage plan? Or the other way around?
