Until the 1% is affected by the shutdown, the GOP will not budge

The areas of the government impacted by the shutdown do not affect the 1% so this shutdown does not bother them. As such, the GOP has no reason to pass a clean CR. This is not going to change until the 1% has some skin in the game.

The easiest way to affect the 1% is for Obama to shut down the FAA. Sure, it will inconvenience thousands if not millions of Americans but it is the easiest way to put the screws to the 1%. Until they scream, nothing is going to change and the GOP will not budge.

9. Not just government contractors

About a million people just lost their jobs....or at least their pay. They won't be spending much. Add to that the non-government support personnel that won't be able to work (ex. maintenance staff), and that's a massive cut to the economy.

Government contractors themselves will be fine for now - they got paid already because the fiscal year ended. It means they won't have new contracts though, so it will start hurting them soon.

I think a lot of the main players in this are safely gerrymandered in their district that they can be as crazy and lunatic as they want and will continue to be elected.

Gerrymandered districts and the fact that they hate the President and wanted him to blink at their tantrum.

This may go on until we bump up against the debt ceiling. If/when that happens, wouldn't it be nice if it fractured the puke party into its various factions? Big Money, Tea Party, Libertarian, whoever. May they eat their own.

And given his current rate of consumption, Boehner will cave in the coming week.

Lest he die of alcohol poisoning.

The 1% will "suffer." If they don't have as much money as they did before, just because we think it's still enough - it is not enough for them.
