Rachel Maddow: Republicans move to the far right....and still feel safe!

Just before the shutdown around midnight Eastern time, Rachel and her guest, Dave Michael of Slate, commented on the GOP's move to the far right. Earlier in the program, she discussed the way that gerrymandering has made GOP House seats safe from any challenge -- except from their own far right!

This is the first time in 17 years that the government has been shut down by GOP refusal to deal; it certainly won't be 17 years before the next one!
