They have succeeded in ending government as we used to know it.

(2,307 posts)They will say the economy tanked because of Obama and sadly so many House districts are drawn in a way Jesus Christ could run as a Democrat and win, yet Adolf Hitler could run as a Republican and win in a landslide.
Politics are local. The problem are that states have drawn the house districts so that the question at election time isn't Democrat or Republican but Crazy Republican or Crazy Insane Republican.
Until we find a way to take back some state legislatures the US House won't change.
I hope I am wrong but I fear I am right.

(2,436 posts)the Dow doesn't seem to mind.
The S&P also seems ok with all this.
I presume it's because the shutdown will not affect whatsoever the efforts of the Federal Reserve to continue to infuse newly created money into the capital markets.

(22,308 posts)The party is doomed. The demographic shift is undeniable.
They may be trying to drag as many of us as possible down with them.
Then, the Teabaggers can split off to form their own party and try to usurp the Republican's place in government.
To me, it is the only thing that makes sense. Cruz, and those like him. must know that they have minority status within their own party. They must want to start a new one.
If Democrats win a majority in The House over this, and retain The Senate or possibly even pick up seats there, the Republican Party is in real trouble. That change could easily carry them into 2016 when larger turnout tends to favor our side anyways. Another strong Democratic Presidential year election, along with the swing in demographics, and the Republican party could be done as a national party right then and there. By 2018 the Teabaggers could start to run as a 3rd party and win, since the party that holds the White House tends to lose seats in midterms anyways plus they are mostly in safe deep red districts anyways.
At least I hope this damages their party so badly that it can't recover. Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but on a day like today I really need to keep thinking happy thoughts.

(24,689 posts)despite the shutdown they will begin to question the Teabaggers tactics. Why shut things down and trash the economy and get nothing in return?
