(2,165 posts)We've been told we'll be allowed up to four hours for that, then I guess I'll head home and file for unemployment again. Shit's gettin' old....

(23,156 posts)The last government shut down was 17 years ago.

(2,165 posts)That was the first time I ever filed for unemplyment in my life. I was hoping not to have to do so again.

(23,156 posts)My company is making us all take extra time off, but we can at least use our own leave time for it. Lucky me, I have lots of hours accrued so I'm not out any money. And it's just random days, not blocks of time as you had to do.
Llewlladdwr
(2,165 posts)Unfortunately, not an option. Good luck to you though, hope y'all can avoid the worst!

their leave is cancelled.
MADem
(135,425 posts)They'll be home in a couple of days--they got a last minute deal on an unfilled cabin.

(135,425 posts)I know what federal agencies they work for, too.
Their leave can be cancelled all you want, but it's cancelled while they float around the Caribbean.
Why don't you learn from this and quit arguing--you are terribly obtuse if you actually think that someone who started their leave before the shut down, and has left the region where they work, is suddenly expected to return to their office to "check out." I'll email them and tell 'em you insisted they start swimming, how's that?
Ya know, I was on the military end of things during the Newtie shut down. I didn't demand that my civilian workers on leave pop in to give me their passwords or do anything of that nature. Everyone called in and I dealt with the ones I had to deal with on pending issues, and we did the best we could with a military staff going forward. A lot just didn't get done.
28. Do you think they get leave during a shutdown?

are you really going to argue this?
their leave during the shutdown is cancelled.
period. if congress decides to pay for the furlough days during the shutdown, they may be paid, but only if.
they are no longer in leave status.
learn from this and quit arguing and if you don't believe me look up something, it won't kill you to learn that you were wrong.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)which they won't be.
yes, if they are physically unable to report they will likely be excused even in unpaid status.
MADem
(135,425 posts)They got a super cheap unsold, last minute cabin on a nice ship. They put in for leave and took off. They knew the likelihood was that the GOP would pull the trigger and they wouldn't have to work, and they both have difficult, high stress, lots-of-work jobs, so they rolled the dice and figured they could get away with having a holiday, since no one else was likely to be working either.

(12,659 posts)We've got three govvies on leave here at the office (a DoD site); the notices were sent out to their homes, the supervisor had to sign an affidavit that he sent it to them, and a message left to not come back in until the government is booted back up into full operational mode. However, all military who were on leave have to check in to get new orders; even then, after the check-in, they can continue their leave unless the command wants to use them to backfill for a civilian who was furloughed.
Some of us scummy contractors are left holding down the fort and trying to keep the level of the workload manageable under the watchful eye of various military members until the govvies come back, due to the nature of our funding. That is, if the CDO is going to extend duty tasking to maintaining the offices; if not, we go home and work piles up and up and up...
Upshot for now, if the govvies aren't "essential", they're not required to come back until the furlough is over.

(1,021 posts)My parents both worked through the last furlough (a month) without pay.
People who complain about lazy, entitled government employees can go fuck themselves.

(5,519 posts)I wonder how this will affect him?
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)if he's non essential he'll not work.
and ethics rules will likely prevent him from trying to make money during the shutdown by working in his own field, using his own expertise.

(5,519 posts)Thanks.
FLyellowdog
(4,276 posts)and he will continue to work. However, many others in his office will not because they are federal employees. They set up the contingencies today in preparation. Guess he'll be working extra hours but no extra pay. Still, he gets a paycheck so it's ok.
Sorry for all the federal workers who will do without. Damn republicans.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)essential employees have to work even though there's no way to pay them.
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)No pay for government workers that are working, but contractors that are working will be paid on time. In-force contracts are funded with FY13 money, so as long as that money lasts, contractors will continue to work with pay.
My ex-wife is a contractor, she's working with pay, I'm a federal employee, I'm not working and no pay. Was in for an hour this morning to sign my letter, turn on my out-of-office message and go home.

(7,290 posts)I have some savings, and if this drags out, I can apply for unemployment.
I feel for the people I work - a number of single moms and lower GS ranks that don't make much as it is. This could be devastating for them.

There's a chance I could be picked up by a project we are doing for Ireland while the Fed is closed. Fingers crossed.
