How ironic: Jim Robinson receiving Government Healthcare at this hour

Because he is a human being and we are human beings, we wish some relief to Jim Robinson's suffering. However, here is the situation:

Jim Robinson is at a VA hospital at this hour. He was scheduled for a long-planned operation to have his remaining leg amputated today, but he suffered some setbacks in his condition. He was in the ER due to dehydration and other symptoms. He is now stable in intensive care. The operation is postponed to tomorrow.

Such ironic timing, as American healthcare hangs in the balance in Washington. (Even though Obamacare WILL begin tomorrow whether the House passes a clean bill or the Senate has to continue blocking GOP delay bills.) Truth is stranger than fiction.

If he earned healthcare as a result of his service to his country (I have no idea what form it took), then he is not a moocher. But he would still be accurately termed a "taker", even if he is taking what the country has agreed is appropriate for veterans like him.

Most people requiring help for serious problems, of one sort or another, will fail any number of "worthiness" tests

I consider it a major societal mistake to discuss worthiness in cases where people require major care

This man is enjoying the hard work of the federal government, saving his rather miserable life, while he shits on others.

I'm sorry, I don't need to feel sympathy for him, and you can't convince me otherwise. Have a good evening.

Why let them operate on you? Pay for a non-government hospital to operate--out of your own pocket, of course, but it's the PRINCIPLE. Stick to your principles, man!!

Can't get on board with the hatred thing. Sorry.

A person in the medical field is supposed to see a human being, nothing more. I'll go with that.

It's just pointing out the irony. Which seems to make you uncomfortable.

I extend no sympathy to him, however. His life will be saved, and all he'll do is go on shitting on others less fortunate.

I may disagree with his views at a deeply visceral level, but I'd never wish him ill. I hope he recovers quickly. No one deserves to suffer like that.

If the doctor is a civilian, he might not be regarded as "key and essential."

I could understand how that would vex him.

Not really, events like this are horrible.

I wish him no ill. I wish him no good, either.

But he and his crowd attacked Max Cleland, a True American hero, and multiple amputee.

Karma's a bitch, apparently.
