"Wegmans Wants Buffalo to Lose.”

The Teamsters union is currently supporting 800 Wegman's grocery supply-chain workers as Wegmans negotiates to remove full healthcare to part-time employees.

The Teamsters hired a pilot to fly this banner above Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park during the Buffalo Bills game today stating: "Wegmans wants Buffalo to lose"

Go Teamsters!

Consistently making their way into the Top 5 Fortune 500 companies to work for.

To turn against their past accomplishments and negotiate their healthcare obligations for part-time employees is a step in the wrong direction.

I truly hope that as Wegmans expands its reach, we do not see the creation of a beast that is the result of its own fortune.

Time will tell.

3. It is a great place to work if you are management, I suppose that is what you are referring to.

Cashiers earn about $8 per hour and are treated like cattle. A "service team leader" makes about 18 or 20. Full management are salaried and are considered a different and far superior specie of human. Not exactly Costco.

This move is fairly typical of their attitude towards hourly workers, I imagine the fortune 500 types consider this to be very progressive, there is a real disconnect between people that identify with management and those of us that work for a living so I suppose such a comment is to be expected and the perspective of the cashiers and stock personnel are expected to be unimportant.

...and your observation on the Fortune perspective is accurate.

At any rate. I was unaware of the that any sort of managerial contempt for the front-end cashiers, I know several of both and they have never uttered words of contempt for either.

Wegmans has been a source of scholarship for part-time student employees, additionally qualifying for healthcare, which I'm not sure how many utilized this option, however being available made Wegmans an employer worth noting.

5. Aldi's is a far better chain to work for, cashiers make about 12 an hour and can opt for insurance

Perhaps they do not get the credit they deserve because they are a discount grocery chain, but no one I know that works there wants to leave for Wegmans or any other chain for that matter, that applies to team leaders and managers as well.

I have heard Costco (although a different type of store) is the absolute best to work for, but sadly we do not have them here in Buffalo.

Does very well for his family, kudos to Aldi's.

Costco is coming to Rochester in 2014, so maybe itit's not too far off in the future for Buffalo as well...

Have a good night, neighbor...
