(6,496 posts)Funds have already been committed, so nothing about the current situation will affect contractors. Unless, that is, they will have no government oversight. In my case, I work in a mix office, some civilian some uniformed personnel and the rest contractors. In case of shut down, the civilians stay home but conracors and military continue to function. If, for some real, the military also stopped showing up, the contractors could not perform their duties unsupervised. We'd still get paid, though, as I said funds have already been allocated to this year.

(5,756 posts)That is federal law. Perhaps they will be delayed in their payments but if they clock-in and work they must be paid. It may be retro-active, but they must be paid.

Wish the private sector was the same. I'm still owed for three weeks work from a studio that went bankrupt last year. It'd be sweet to have that money now...

(39,171 posts)money from previous fiscal years is still good. A shut down means no new money.

(16,199 posts)The shutdown affects Government agencies, which cannot spend money because of the Anti-Deficiency Act. Contractors likely got their money in advance and once in their coffers aren't affected by US Gov budget rules. Now if a contractor needed funding because the contract runs out on Oct 1, then they will have to layoff employees.
