the same day Obamacare really takes off.
How many DUers know that the last President who spoke with an Iranian leader before Obama did so last Friday was Jimmy Carter in 1979 - he spoke with the Shah just before his departure.
Jimmy Carter is still involved in the struggle for peace across our globe.
He just returned from Myanmar.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and two other former world leaders who are part of a group known as "The Elders" have wrapped up a visit to Myanmar with calls to address spiraling Buddhist-led violence against minority Muslims.
They said in a press release that "these senseless, destructive, repeated acts of brutality" could not be ignored.
Carter, president from 1977-81, was joined on the trip by Martti Ahtisaari, former president of Finland, and Gro Harlem Brundtland, former prime minister of Norway.

(269,022 posts)Too honest for this generation. A fearless man who speaks the truth regardless of the hatred from the RWs who sabotaged his government.

(269,022 posts)He served, went home and found a new way to serve. He never cashed in on his Presidency - that makes him really different.

(269,022 posts)was when his grandson exposed Rmoney's 47% tape. It was particularly sweet because they were attempting to compare Obama with Carter over their fake scandal Benghazi.
I laughed until tears flowed when I discovered that it was Carter's grandson who blew the lid of that one.

(111,098 posts)I lived in Atlanta when Jimmy decided to run for President. I told my brother that he would be the next President of the United States. "You gotta be kidding", he said.
But I just had a hunch that the American people were basically good and honest people and that, after Watergate, they would be looking for a good and honest man. Jimmy Carter was that.
On edit: Happy Birthday Jimmy!!!
