Goppers, particularly in southern and even northern gerrymandered districts feel totally safe no matter what they do. They believe that Obama will eventually relent is they shut down the government and default on the debt. That he will relent to save what is left of the economy.
With polls showing only 52% blaming them, they believe that the hysteria they will create will shift the blame to the Dems. Also they are relying on the media to paint the Dems as the stubborn culprit. And they are relying on a panicking public to go after the Dems to break the impasse and do it their way.
They also believe they have already rigged the 2014 election and the rich class will shower them with unlimited cash to carry their message forward. That message is that the Dems and their policies worsened the Recession and will bring on a Depression unless spending is slashed and health care is done their way.

(1,947 posts)Their actions are changing the political rules in such a way that the nation will be ungovernable, and they surely know it. But their own paychecks are more important than the future of the nation.
I hope the Senate agrees to all of their demands, and sends back a bill that delays funding for Obama care but also raises tax rates for the rich and corporations to what they were during the Eisenhower Presidency until it is funded.

(10,942 posts)and raise the Debt Ceiling for the remainder of his term and for two years into the next President's term by Executive Order. President Obama should force a constitutional showdown with the treasonous republican bastards in the House. The President will win that battle on all fronts. The bastards would try to impeach the President and probably impeach him, but the Senate won't go along with removal from office, and republicans will pay dearly at the polls in 2014, even in their gerrymandered districts.
