I'm watching the speeches on C-SPAN and I feel really helpless

What the republicans are doing is criminal, yet it appears that nothing can be done about it as long as half of the country isn't aware of what's going on and the other half doesn't care. It's really unfair that they get to collect a paycheck for actively destroying this country. I really hate them.

I think she's Rep from TN. and she was just ranting about the evils of the ACA. Going on and on with lie after lie.

That said, don't kid yourself, they didn't get this crazy all by their own doing. It has taken a buttload of spineless capitulating to think this is a good idea.

Had our fearless leaders stood up to these assholes years ago, this wouldn't be happening. It was entirely predictable and was in fact, predicted by those of us who don't have our heads up our ass and called for taking these jerks on years ago. But the DLC and Turd Way placators "knew better."

How's that working out?

since Dems refused to straight up call them on their BS a long time ago. Now they've been somewhat "legitimized" because of it.

EDIT to fix typo in heading. And to lament missing the drama below.

Most of our society is based on war, death and predatory capitalism and it's not changing anytime soon. Rs just represent 1 stupid hick section of our society, there are plenty of corrupt people who aren't Rs that are quite happy continuing just the way we are.

I mean......honestly....what stuns me more than anything is that there is this separation between the majority of people and the minuscule number of assholes yet they are still walking the earth.

Only two Republicans voted with Dems against the latest CR bill early Sunday am (Gibson and Hanna).

And two Dems voted Yes with the GOP (Matheson and McIntyre)!

I know the House oath requires they swear they will uphold the Constitution. I know the Constitution declares Uncle Sam will pay its bills. I know there are a number of Republicans who think shutting down the Government is wrong. Additionally, if these Congressmen who have organized the vote to shut the government down were accused of not living up to their oath of office and protecting the Constitution, it would have to be done outside of Congress -- which would never impeach them.

So I am wondering if citizens could form a class action lawsuit and sue those Tea Party Republicans personally for losses they suffer from their negligence as a civil servant. Negligence would be their failure to uphold their duty to protect the Constitution. It would not be a criminal suit but a civil suit. The magnitude of the amount these Congressional representatives are sued for would be of such a staggering amount it would destroy them financially.

So the question I have is would this be possible?

There is absolutely no way to stop the ACA from being implemented at this point. The Senate would never allow it, and even if they were all hypnotized and did, Obama would veto it. If any of these House Republicans think there's any chance of success, they've gone almost certifiably insane.

I can only hope that this turns out to be as big a disaster for the GOP as the 1995 shutdown was. At least then they only pulled such a stunt after winning the 1994 elections. Now they're just nuts.
